Wiltfong posted something. Loy reached out to Dexter and he said that he hasn't committed anywhere and will probably take it to signing day.

Then he listed the seven RBs that ND has recruited hard including Dexter and Adams and said it looks likely that we get two of them.

I still think he may want to have his moment in the sun (which I don't blame him for) in regards to committing to ND. He's either going to announce something himself tomorrow or make an announcement on NSD IMO. Either way though, I think he is all Irish.

Will be very glad to have him.

And of all the people to jump the gun on announcing a kid's maybe-silent commit, Cierre Wood?
I mean, maybe he was just reminiscing 'bout old times with Coach Alford on a Tuesday afternoon and something slipped out. But pretty random.

To add, many of the services, and many of the AA games ask recruits to announce with them. They may also have relationships with other coaches at other schools that they want to notify prior to announcement as a courtesy.

At this point though, we're past the AA games, and I don't know that kids owe the recruiting services much really. Certainly the right thing to do to inform coaches you've built relationships with before your decision goes public.
But mostly the silent commit bit seems to be so the kid can have his 15 minutes - on ESPN or at some high school press conference or whatever. And that's fine, but that's all it is.

Cierre wasn't the only one to jump the gun. Nix had a tweet to Dexter commenting about a Florida boy wearing a gold helmet and essentially congratulating him on his commitment.

Either way, I think Dexter ends up Irish. Just a little odd that former players jumped the gun with the news of his commitment.

Lastly, I like Dexter's film. The kid has some real big play ability. But I am concerned about his ability to play through contact. I didn't see a ton of broken tackles or evasive movements in his film. More so appeared to simply take what was given to him from his blockers and go down with initial contact.

Would be curious to hear other's ideas on this...

Completely agree with you. His tape looks almost identical to Ronald Jones' with the exception that Jones runs hard as shit and breaks tackles. Williams looks like a really good prospect and in an Oregon like system would put up video game numbers (and should fit here very nicely as well). I wouldn't expect him to get the hard yards necessarily, which is ultimately really important.

Not really all that concerned. Florida has arguably the fastest players in the country, so the fact that he's weaving past these guys like it's nobodies business is promising. He definitely would see the field immediately as a home-run threat RB. Arguably on par with RJII, but like you said, RJII has shown he can run through contact. That being said, Flex runs with confidence and authority, so I can assume he isn't afraid of getting hit and can brush off secondary contact like nothing.

You're not lying about the speed in Florida. And it undoubtedly has me excited to see dude running past all of the LBs and some of the DBs down there. Just hoping it translates to the next level...

I will say, I really like the north south running style he has. Very little shake in his game. All about getting up field.

Just watched his film, at the 2:12 mark I lost it.

Haven't seen burners like that in a recruit this year.

Went to may granddaughters HS basketball game last night. They played Warren Central (Day's and my alma mater). Anyway much to my surprise, I see that Cierre Wood is playing for them! Didn't know he had some HS eligibility left.

Agree, but I don't see anything wrong with a kid wanting his 15 minutes. It's also the HS's 15 minutes in some cases. Just kids being kids, and after all, it is a business regardless of if we like it or not. And kids don't owe anything to a service necessarily but a service CAN help a kid's profile. More articles, more attention to the kid and the service. Back to the point it's a business these days.

I've been concerned about his ability to run behind his pads from the get go. It's why I've been a bigger fan of other runningbacks including Vaughan. I'm not sure if Dexter has the frame or running style that allows him to get tough yards. I want bowling balls at runningback, not gazelles but to each their own.

I'm with Beau and IrishFam.

When I watch Dexter's film, I'm almost reminded of George Atkinson with the way he approaches contact, in that he doesn't really do anything to prevent a collision at times. It's obvious that he's way more shifty and natural as a RB than GAIII was, but when he goes through traffic, I'd like to see him a bit lower and protect himself against contact a bit more. It's not as bad as GAIII was, but it's still noticeable.

Problem is, at this point in time, beggars can't be choosers.

I second this concern. Does anyone remember a Mr. Armando Allen from FL? Never got over 190-195 lbs and while having good speed, the only tackle I remember him breaking was the embrace of the one of the cheerleaders.

I dont recall too many bruisers from Florida. Fl has speed in abundance but I dont recall too many wreckingballs from there.

armando was pretty frustrating to watch at times alright. you would have expected more from such a highly rated back

Oh I'd still take him in a heartbeat. A home run threat that looks like a natural runner, and runs *low enough* through contact that he can probably be taught how to correct the issue (unlike GAIII)?

Do want.

He's just got to learn how to protect himself a bit better, and I think he could be a monster as a change-of-pace guy.
