He isnt as good at Jay Hayes at this point in their careers. Hayes has a the athleticism and agility that MDT doesnt have and probably wont get. MDT does however, have the strength Hayes didnt have at this point. MDT could see the field next year, but I would highly doubt it. He would benefit from a year in the weight room and working with Longo. He can play SDE but I see him inside. MDT is the typical SEC DT, big, long armed, and someone who can move the point of attack. But, there isnt a good reason for him to play next year with Cage, Jones, Mokwah, Hayes all on track and add in Matuska and possibly Hounshell. I think you can get by saving him for a year, but its also the same staff that didnt save Okwara.

Hounshell .....huh? Can u share your synopsis on his career? Why would he get a fifth when he has never been in the two deep? We have lots of fifth year options ...

I agree. Hounshell looked good as a freshman but injuries just have completely ruined his career here as a football player. Hard to fathom ND passing on another signee to bring him back.

Solid explosion for someone his size. I also like that... unlike every DL currently taking snaps... he uses his hands to disengage from blockers.

Downside... balance, lateral agility, closing speed, leverage.

The article's main points:
-He looks significantly stronger
-His hands as a pass rusher are even better
-He showed flashes of being more explosive
-He's not a defensive end
-He needs to learn how to finish

I just got done reading an article, and it brought up Rasheem Greene. I watched his film. Honestly, based solely on film, I think MDT is better (Note: I'm not familiar with either's level of competition, just basing it off of what I saw from them). I think he has a more explosive first step and has more tools to work with in terms of pass rushing. I've seen him utilize several techniques or just bullrush a guy to the backfield. Green is considerably stronger at this point, but MDT has a spring of ND conditioning under his belt, so I think he may have the slight edge. Needless to say, we got a good one here.

I like MDT a lot, but he is not even close to the same prospect as Greene, let alone better.

IMO.

^^^Yes, and I think Elijah Taylor is currently our best. Tillery may have the best upside but Taylor is a proven DT.

Yup people forget that Taylor had offers from FSU, Ohio State, Miami, MSU, and Tennessee

Greene played against and dominated some of the beet talent in the country. I'm glad we have MDT, but right now the two aren't even close to each other. There's a reason the best programs in the nation would hold a spot for Greene.

Don't you think Tillery is our best?

We'll see. I do think he'll make a great impact at DT, but I haven't seen enough film on him on defense.

I like MDT a lot, but he is not even close to the same prospect as Greene, let alone better.

IMO.

Your opinion, and you aren't alone in that thinking, but from what I saw, they are very close to the same prospect. Both similar frames (Greene is about 15 pounds bigger), MDT looked swifter and more explosive, Greene looked stronger.

IMO

This is solely based on film though. Taylor was very good on film, but MDT looked better to me, but I do remember hearing that it was due to the way the defense used Taylor that limited his impact in getting into the backfield (lined up way off the LOS), so who knows. He has an impressive offer list though.

I know I am one of the few, but after observation and speaking to a few, I think Taylor probably has the lowest ceiling of the kids committed.

He has a lot of strength and can potentially really help in the run game, but he just lacks size, girth and explosion. Itll be interesting to see how his body develops once he gets into Longos program.

For Tiassum and MDT, they have tons to work with being athletic, taller and longer. Taylor is just a little stockier and has really short arms.

MDT will look completely different in August than he does now, and I think itll be exciting to see him in Jan 2016 and see his progression as he will be ready to make a move on the depth chart.

This is generally where I'm at in where we stand with our DT recruits. Taylor is the most likely to be a consistent, solid DT for us, but he probably doesn't have as much upside that Tillery, MDT or Tiassum have. Tillery is just a monster, no getting around that. Would have been interesting to see where he would be if he played DT full time (or if he did, get more film on him playing DT). Tiassum definitely has the lowest floor, but he has a very high ceiling. He is kinda like Mokwuah in which he'll need a few years to contribute at a high level. MDT is just athletic as hell and can play anywhere on the line. He still needs some work on his frame, but his technique is stellar and he has a great motor.
