That whole OL just played beastly... but Martin is playing at an unreal level for a rookie. He's so freaking good... wonder if/when they try to pair him up with Tyron Smith for a dominant left side, or if they plan to keep him on the right side and maybe move him to RT eventually. He is kicking major butt at guard.
The news down here in Dallas is they have not practiced him a tackle since the beginning, and will not move him this season. RT Doug Free suffered a fractured foot in the Seattle game, and is out 3-4 weeks. Backup T Jeremy Parnell is starting now at RT and Martin will stay at guard.
Personally, I don't think that Martin will move to the left side G unless there is an injury. Leary is a plus guard with size and athleticism, and he and Tyron Smith are doing an outstanding job. Smith was just name the offensive player of the month, first time for an OL to be named since 2004.
Part of Smith's emergence is the play of Leary next to him. Dallas gave Leary a third round grade coming out of college, but he has a chronic knee injury and fell out of the draft. Leary always had solid NFL talent.
RT Doug Free's contract is up this year, and many writers think Martin will slide to RT. I think that is an ideal position for him to use both his size and athleticism. Free may be re-signed at a reduced salary for RG. The knock on Free in his past was his technique and ability to move the pile, but he has corrected that recently under the tutelage of OL coaches.
Free is weak against outside pass rushers, so the thought is to move him inside to RG. He is a cagey vet and would fit very well inside while providing good size and strength for the running game. The only question is how much does he cost the Cowboys, who have several priority free agents this off-season to sign. What they do with Free will have a big impact on where Martin ends up.
