Feel bad for Clausen. I think he'll get killed against the Lions D line.

I really hope he does well. He has the talent to start in the NFL and has got a pretty raw deal. I'll never complain about an ND QB starting in the NFL no matter how douchey he is.

There's just no downside to this.

What's the worst that could happen, Clausen plays like shit and the bears lose? Oh, no, not that...

Awesome. So excited.

So, Cutler is locked in at $15.5 for next year. Who is going to pay that....

Here is his chance. He moves that offense like McCown did last year and he'll have a huge shot and doing something next season.

If he flops? Well... I'm sure you know.

Good for Jimmy. Plus I hate Jay Cutler so this is a win/win. I just hope Clausen doesn't play too well the last week of the season.

Jimmy wasn't my favorite QB, but he hasn't really gotten a fair shake either. He started out too young and quickly was replaced with Newton who has been regressing each season since his first. Hopefully he makes the most of this opportunity.

The Lions only sacked Cutler 3 times last game and he threw the ball 48 times. Offensive line is pretty ok for the Bears actually. Jimmy should be protected.

If he had the talent, he would have been starting by now. Loved Jimmay at ND, but I hope his degree pans out for him.

The more I think about this, the more I'm inclined to think the Bears are thinking that JC sh!tting the bed will make Cutler look better in hindsight, and will make someone want to trade for him in the off-season. That doesn't really make any sense, but somehow it does? It's just an odd move.

They clearly want to get rid of Cutler, or else they wouldn't do this...so maybe putting putting a backup out there who will struggle will make Cutler not seem so terrible?

I duno, it's just an odd move. Tough to know what the Bears are thinking. Maybe they want to let teams see Clausen to drum up some trade value for him as a backup? Is he signed through next year?

I just hope JC performs well enough to stay around in the league.

Make sure to fall down or duck when Suh gets in the backfield on a passing down.

Agreed. His junior season at ND was one of the most impressive under-the-radar seasons I've ever seen a QB have anywhere. I'll always give him props for that.

I met an alum at the UNC tailgate this year who was a student trainer during the Weis era. She was reluctant to spill the beans but did finally admit that JC was the one player that no one could stand. I assume she meant by the student staff...not the players. She said none of the student trainers were allowed to lay a finger on Clausen...just the head trainer & team doc. It was interesting to get her perspective. She was the one driving the cart that hauled Weis off the field when John Ryan hit him on the sideline and blew out his knee.

Frankly if I was the Lions I would trade Stafford for Cutler straight up. The Bears OL this year is garbage and with that defense Detroit has they would be 1 or 2 games better and have already sealed away the NFC North.

My only interaction with Jimmy was he once held the door for me at SDH. I actually didn't realize it was him until someone pointed it out later. So I guess he wasn't all bad.

No. As a Lions fan, who isn't a huge Stafford fan, I'll pass. His mental side just isn't there.

I didn't say he was a bad person. I just recounted what a student trainer that worked on staff during Clausen's time at ND told me. I had no reason to think she was lying...especially b/c she wasn't malicious towards him. I'm sure there was a lot negotiating w/ his father during his recruitment. Not monetary, but how he would be handled by coaches and staff. His dad looked at Jimmy as the last chance for an NFL QB in the family...IMO. That arm was part of the investment and it was injured more than we fans were led to believe his freshman season. He shouldn't have been playing.

I think they're both pretty comparable. Gunslingers who aren't elite. I don't think you can win a Super Bowl with either one personally.

Lot of talk on chicago radio today about the Jets and Redskins. Said Snyder wants Cutty would swap first rounders and give bears cousins. I think i take that . It has grown so toxic here and worse than a soap opera. Other rumors are emery is making this happen to save his ass and make cutler look better if clausen flops. I hope he wins !!

I would take that swap easily. In fact, that's such a good deal that it's not going to happen because I can't have nice things.

The bears front office will need ski masks to pull this deal off.
