UCLA hasn't offered any TE's since Jones committed to them a while back. However, that changed today as they extended an offer to Chris Clark who immediately put on twitter (shocker) that he'll OV to UCLA. I'd take this as a decent positive for ND.

That can only help with our chances here...unless they were planning on taking two all along. OH Pease!!

Personally I think Smythe is better than what we're seeing. I was really high on him coming out of HS and he's added some strength. I think he might just be 1 year away in that category from being a difference maker. He has very good ball skills, I think its holding up at the point of attack that needs to improve.

I understand that. But, Ben was behind two players. Smythe could step up and be the second TE, there is no else in his way of getting PT. Koyak plays like 95% of the offensive snaps.

I'd guess Smythe hasn't seen the field because: (1) Koyack's the clear #1 TE; and (2) our Z WRs have been very productive this season. In years past, our 2nd TE was a better option than our 1st Z WR. Not so anymore.

Yes. Very much so. Not the same player as Eifert, but similar molds. A WR in a TE's body.
