Who the hell cares. Just win. If ND is ranked #10 at 11-1 then lets bitch. Pointless at this point.

Because I need a reason to drink. My friends say if I don't have a good reason to drink, I'm an alcoholic. And momma didn't raise no drunkard.

I think posts like this are rather pointless, this is a discussion board and people will (and should) talk about it. Nothing wrong with being upset that Michigan St. or a few other teams are ahead of us (I am not particularly upset but I get that others are).

Just saw this shit. I almost lost my mind in a public place when I saw Ole Miss is 4. That is so awful.

There were 3 in the AP, lost to the 24th ranked team, and drop ONE spot?!?!

I know a lot of people are a little nervous, but think about the young men over at Navy, ASU, NW, Louisville, and USC. They're about to get fucked up. Seriously, no italics, no joking, no nothing.

The SEC is a self fulfilling prophecy. They are all highly ranked to start the season. Maybe some of those teams warrant that ranking but others do not. They all end up beating each other and you end right back up with the preseason rankings. Nobody knows exactly how good they are because they played absolutely no one worth a damn outside of their conference.

It has been mentioned numerous times that the SEC plays each other but they won't fall far because those losses will be seen as quality. Explain to me why NDs loss to #2 FSU is not a quality loss then? I don't see ND making the top 4 regardless of winning out. The committee will punish ASU and Louisville for losing to ND and make those wins seem not as good as they really are. This is the SEC bias

Doesn't matter. Don't waste your energy.

And no, I don't think we're one of the best 4 teams. Vegas guys think we're about the #10-11 team in the country in terms of "strength" ... and like I've said repeatedly, I won't start caring about where we're slotted until we get through ASU. We're through that tough game 8-1 and then it's time to start really paying attention.

There are so many hurdles to us even going 11-1 that it's a complete exercise in futility to start worrying about where we're ranked in fucking October.

pkt... it's not pointless. it happens to be the opinion of several posters. just because they/we think it's futile to speculate endlessly about something outside of our control (the past), doesn't make it pointless. they/we are entitled to discuss and share their/our opinion. am I pissed, yes.

do I think we are better than some of the teams ranked higher, I do. I also recognize the fact they rewarded record first, quality of wins amongst same record second, and quality of losses third (maybe worse than third). I can't argue with 1 (record), and debatable at best to argue 2 (quality of wins) when we haven't beaten anybody except Stanford who is no longer ranked and whom we barely beat at home.

The teams ahead of us all have opportunities to cannibalize each other, or lose to rivals. We have opportunities to grab a quality win or two. That's all we can do. If we're 11-1 at the end of the season and behind folks with less quality wins and have the same record, then I'll melt down, likely along with TP, LAX, and many others.

I'm not impressed with the job the committee did here. Ole Miss is not the 4th best team in the country. I can think of at least 6 teams I'd take and give points on over them, including ND. I think Bama's too low at #6 and ND is way too low at #10.

I don't care who the committee puts in the playoff. I don't care if my team's in, if all four spots are SEC teams or none of them are. I just want them to select the four teams they genuinely and honestly believe to be the four BEST teams in football regardless of anything else.

This, and only this. Go fuc% up every team remaining on our schedule. kick them in the nuts, throw the ball when we are up 30pts. blitz them in the 4th when we are shutting them out and leading by a ton.

fuc% them up gentlemen and look pretty doing it, that is all.

This and JOIN a conference.

Multiple posts on Mgoblog saying " I hate ND, but they should be higher".

Makes me feel less homer-like when I think that we should be a few spots higher.

This and JOIN a conference.

This is not about joining a conference. Our issue here is that the teams on our schedule who typically are quality, all $hit the bed this year. We all rejoice that Michigan is a dumpster fire, happy that NC is a cluster, but both of those situations have killed our body of work. That combined with Stanford underperforming (debatable), Purdue/Syracuse/Rice being who they are, and letting FSU come back on us..... have impacted our ranking. No need to join a conference...

Correct... this year. But moving forward, if there is a year where they are not a lot of teams stacked together, the conference championship games may end up being the deciding factors. And that could very well hurt ND.

It's coming... if the Big 12 get a champ game then we will be on shakier ground. Power rest in the conferences and they will squeeze out any competition from ND or any group of 5 school

1. I checked the thread to see how the meltdown was going. You guys didn't disappoint, thanks!

2. Check the Stanford gameday thread. I predicted that they weren't worth a damn and that beating them would be useless.

3. Remember when EVERYONE said how freaking awesome the committee would be? I didn't.

4. EVERYONE is on the nuts of the SEC West, not just ESPN. In fact, the SEC is significantly lower overall in the ESPN power rankings than the committee rankings.

5. Yes, this is an "I told you so" post. I don't care. I've been ridiculed all season for being a hater and every other thing. We haven't beaten ANYBODY this year and the rankings reflect that.
I have some thoughts about you and if your opinion is worth a damn and this post didn't disappoint, thanks!

Very true. Can ND add a 13th game? Seriously.... would rather do that as a equalizer than join a conference. That still doesn't guarantee a quality opponent at the end of the year, but at least gives us a opportunity to beat up on someone and look pretty while the conf championships are happening.

At the end of the day, we don't let Shameis drive on us to win the game, and it's a moot point.

Four spots... five conferences and Notre Dame.

It will all be moot in a few years when the playoff goes to eight teams.

But telling other people to not bitch about it and that it is pointless to speculate comes off as rather holier than thou (which is more of the point I was trying to get across), we speculate on everything at IE and we have control over exactly zero of it (who will start this year, who will be the next commit, what 5th years will be kept, if Kelly is going to leave, what was going to happen to the 5 suspended players, etc,). As I have pointed out I am not very upset about it because I have bigger shit to worry about right now but I completely get that people need to bitch about it (just like we did the PI call in the FSU game) and that in some ways it is good to get it out. You (and TP, and Lax) can hold your opinion that it isn't worth getting upset about (and I hold that same opinion) but I think that telling other people that they shouldn't be upset by it and shouldn't bitch about it is acting a little high and mighty.

This is my wish!!
But does that mean 5 automatic berths for conf champions, plus 3 SEC teams? :)
