Seriously, this outrage is unwarranted right now.

Who have we beat? Every team ahead of us has beaten a current top-25 opponent. I was shocked initially but clarity has set in. We just need to get to the more difficult part of our schedule, we still have some teams that can move us forward.

/thread we haven't beaten anyone and yes I know neither has MSU

I think we've ended the regular season with four or less one loss teams twice in the last decade. Doesn't look good.

I think there was a clerical error on this poll, though. No way these pricks intentionally put us ahead of Georgia.

Agree. The only team thus far that the Irish have played without three or more losses is FSU. Yes, it was a loss that could be debated, but if body of work, SOS, and head to head seems to be the criteria, then the Irish come up short right now. They can thank Michigan, NC, and Stanford for being pretty dismal teams. Still, if the Irish win out, they have as good a shot as anyone to make the final four teams.

This is a bunch of horse$hit. Use that same effing logic on teams above us. Who has MSU beat? The teams we have left can't propel us forward unless ridiculous crap happens. Quit trying to polish this turd into a diamond. This does matter.

Man i'm pissed.

We have a better resume than MSU period. On one side, they made it clear that who you beat matters. But when it came to MSU, they didn't call it that way.

I have no idea why a panel full of people with no clear protocol and no prerequisites is allowed to be the final word on this. Christ... sitting AD's are on the freaking committee making judgement calls about the teams that decide their own career fate. No one thought this was a bad idea? Really?

Exactly! This could be our nightmare come very true. Happy Halloween!

Exactly. Style points aren't being calculated. We blanked Michigan but they may not even be .500, may as well have played Wyoming.

The rest of our wins aren't impressive yet. Stanford can do us a favor by winning out from here. ASU can do us a favor by winning out from here. As it stand, ASU will propel us up a couple spots just by winning. Now factor in the teams that may lose in the next two weeks and you see there is a lot of movement that can occur. Some other teams "signature" wins will be devalued as time plays out.

TA&M would've been a huge win earlier in the season, now it's a garbage win to the committee. They are looking at top-level opponents, not the entirety of your schedule. They aren't penalizing for scheduling FCS schools yet.

It's still early.

MSU beat the currently ranked #15 Nebraska team. Why do I have to keep typing that. We haven't beaten anyone in the current top-25.

Considering how many PAC12 affiliated people are on the committee, should we be surprised?

I know its early, but this sure seems like a system that fucks Notre Dame. How MSU could be above us is beyond comprehension, and Ole Miss being in the top 4 is a freaking joke. LSU was the 24th (AP) ranked team in the country until they beat Ole Miss LAST WEEK, now they move up and Ole Miss stays in the top 4? Unreal... The deck is stacked for the SEC. All they have to do is not lose to their cupcakes and the best records of their conference go no matter what. Total horse$hit.

Nope. Shouldn't be surprised. Just showing how the conference bias is in the rankings.

It really is unbelievable. All y'all saying we haven't been anyone, I get that. No a big one. But have the others? The top few have but MichSU certainly hasn't. KState beat OU by 1 but no other decent wins. TCU beat OU by 4, walloped OKState, and lost to Baylor. Not stellar. No reason we should be behind those 3. None.

Not sure if this has been noted, apologies if it has.

The committee cares a lot about your simple won/loss record. NO team [other than disrespecteds like ECU and Duke] was rated by them over a team with fewer losses. And there was a mild trend as to whether you've won 7 or 6 [we have 6 and trail a few "7" teams.]

Who knows how strong these things will remain as prime criteria, but they could. The reason is that the actual won/loss record is about the only undebatable thing you have. With twelve people with twelve idiosyncratic methodologies this sort of simplistic criterion might survive as potent.

The relevance is, obviously, that when we go 11-1, most of those teams ahead of us will have two losses --- we should pass them. The unusual sorting method that the committee uses almost requires that some robotic criteria are the ones which retain weight.

I believe that if there is not a lot of influence by "strong" committee members over others during these next weeks, the simplistic criteria might prevail to NDs gain. Even if a strong but football-savvy member like Alvarez would begin to influence others, his ideas about comparing the types of opponents [i.e. if you score 50 against a team which gives up 48 per game, your offense doesn't impress] COULD help ND if we get really rolling from now on out.

I'm not ready to toss in this towel.

Quit being a jackass because you're emotional right now. I'm not near a TV, and I don't see Jeff Long's comment's on the web yet. The show was 30 minutes ago.

Fuq you. Quit asking the same annoying @ss question over and over again when nobody is in the mood to give you a break down of Long's comments. You've asked 10 times and obviously no one wants to give you a point by point breakdown. This site doesn't revolve around you. Google the $hit or simply turn on the tv (its still all over espn), then join the conversation.

We aren't hear to constantly fill you in on every detail. Catch up or shut up.

I read it the first time. You really think that Nebraska is the 15th best team in the country? They almost lost to McNeese St. In addition, MSU got raped by Oregon. That doesn't matter?

We can only play who is on our schedule.

Can't believe i'm not going to sleep tonight because of these rankings. Let's review in 4 weeks when we barely beat Navy because we're so respectful of their traditions, lose to ASU(UNC blueprint repeated), barely beat Northwestern b/c they play out of their minds and beat Louisville on a last second field goal.

I know its early, but I don't think people really understand how hard it will be for us to jump one of these teams (like a TCU or Michgan State) if they keep winning. I know this committee says that they will re-evaluate after every week, but they're human. Just like the people who vote on AP or Coaches Poll. Remember in 2012, when we were 10-0 and ranked behind K-State? Despite having a better resume? I don't see them bumping ND above MSU/TCU if they keep winning.

Yes, we still get to play #14 Arizona State and #25 Louisville. Well, Michigan State still has #16 Ohio State and #15 Nebraska. TCU still has #20 WVU and #9 Kansas State.

The people who are saying that we're automatically in at 11-1 or that this poll doesn't matter yet should probably consider that fact that outside the SEC, there are 4 teams (FSU, Oregon, TCU, Michigan State) who are ahead of us and will be favored in every game the rest of the season.

The only solace to take from this is that they aren't putting too much of an emphasis on head-to-head, and we could actually jump a 1-loss FSU due to their weak schedule.

I really don't see how ND is going to get in the top 4 all the way from 10 barring major upsets. FSU doesn't play dick the rest of the way so that only leaves 3 spots.

In all actuality this is actually set up in our favor. 4 or 5 of the top 9 will play each other and work themselves out. This may just be above our intellect at this time.

Doesn't matter since it's all top sec west playing sec west. Ole Miss is about where they would have been if they beat an average LSU team. The SEC bias by the committee is as bad as ESPN. If Bama beats Auburn, I doubt we jump Auburn. You can apply this to pretty much every match up in the SEC west.
