I had just read it and was wondering if anyone posted it on here. So depressing.

It really drives home in how much better shape the program is now.

Some of those losses were just soul-crushing. Not because we lost but because we were crushed by teams who weren't that good. A well-coached team always has a chance. We were floundering helplessly at times during the Weis years, even during good seasons. The 2006 UM game is a great example, as the writer points out.

Compare last season to some of those Weis years. Not everything worked last year, but we were in every game. Same with 2011. Our records in those seasons weren't gaudy, but it's night and day if you compare those seasons to the Weis years on a game-by-game basis.

If ND had only a decent defense and DC, imagine how many games would have been won. Clausen to Tate and Floyd never gets old. Jimmay had a rocket arm.

That is crazy to think. Each of those years, except the 2007 season, brought so much promise. We had so many offensive weapons. Just could not play a lick of defense.

I have a lot I can say about the CW era, but I'll keep it short. Every year came with very high expectations, yet ended with utter disappointment and, at times, embarrassment. I was at a lot of these games and I can vividly remember how upset I was as I left the stadium each time after a loss. CW's teams lacked any kind of backbone when the going got tough. The defense was so bad that it actually allowed Stanford to score the go-ahead TD just so the offense could get the ball back and try to tie. Meanwhile BK's 2012 defense stopped Stanford on the goal line numerous times for the win. It just blows my mind away how far this program has come since BK. I think defense has been the main change. Man, it was awful watching teams like Syracuse, UConn, etc come in and beat ND. Smh.

After reading this entire article, you can't really blame non-ND fans for hating on this program so much. It really was bad. This article does a great job of illustrating that. It makes you appreciate BK that much more.

I can't help but bristle when people say that, if what you are saying is that the offense was good enough to win but the defense held us back under Weis. You are absolutely correct that we had amazing offensive weapons, but the offense was still somehow bad.

Look at #6, 2008 Boston College. Our D played great in that game, but the offense was totally inept, despite all the great offensive players we had. Our offense was spectacular at times under Weis but it was never the type of offense that could execute consistently, efficiently and reliably. We would score a TD on an amazing Clausen/Tate play, and then go three-and-out on the next drive.

A line I loved from that piece was in the part about the 2005 MSU game: "Brady threw for 487 yards (an insanely inefficient 487 if memory serves, although he was 55% on the day) ..." That's exactly how I remember Brady Quinn ... he would rack up yards and TDs, and he had all the intangibles you want your QB to have, but he was fairly inefficient. He would throw for over 400 yards in a particular game, but then I would watch the WNDU replay later that night and say, man, he left at least 200 passing yards on the field today. He was never a really accurate passer (unlike Clausen).

I don't care what anyone says, 2005 USC is the worst loss... I got over a lot of things but that's never going to settle with me

Ugh anytime a ND fan wants to complain about BK they should have to read this list. We were so inept and if a team was even semi-competent it had a chance.

The one bright spot is I forgot just how awesome Clausen/Tate/Floyd were because none of them have ever really lived up to their potential in the NFL.

Tate's had a nice little career and a big pay day this year. Super Bowl champ too. Floyd is doing really well with the Cards and is benefiting from teams keying on Fitzgerald.

Yeah but when I watched them at ND I was expecting more than "a nice little career" from Tate and Floyd. Jimmy was just a complete and total letdown.

I went to the 2009 UConn game with my brothers and son. It is #1 in my heart! The whole thing was painful and of course I tortured myself watching highlights.

It was bad but it also gave a false sense that "ND was back". And to an extent the program was pretty decent in '05 and '06. But the '08 loss to UNC was one that really killed my feeling that the program was headed for great things. And the '09 loss to Michigan is still one of the worst feelings I've ever had after a football game. The '09 loss to USC just confirmed that it was another sad, mediocre ND season. Those 3 were the worst for me.

I think the article is correct, that 'Cuse loss was just beyond horrible in so many ways.

U'Conn and any time we've lost to Navy are pretty bad too.

^This. My behavior after that game strained my marriage for a few days.

I was an undergrad from 2007 to 2011. My class witnessed (statistically) the worst consecutive four years of Notre Dame football... ever.
