i actually sympathize with the kid.

prolly doesn't like the fact that he has to tell one of the staffs no and doesn't want to think about it.

let the kid enjoy high school and his sr year of football. he can focus on college later.

Kid is about to get a free education while playing football, no sympathy from me although I've been known to be an asshole.

Could be, but he has to know sometimes decisions are tough for a reason.

I almost get the impression that the only reason he is even going to play football in college is just for the paid tuition and room & board.

Honestly not a terrible reason.

Wouldn't it be awesome if some of our defensive players went to his game with the coaches.....how would a kid like him appreciate that

Told Anna he isn't going as well. May visit for Stanford, may visit a Michigan game. Does not like the process. She also made it a point to note that she speaks directly with him, not to his coaches or anyone around him.

If I was Bilal, I'd make sure I talked directly to her too, LOL. All the others can just talk to my handlers.

People can say what they want... one of the biggest draws to ND is that you get to play on the main stage every weekend. If he does not like or is otherwise disinterested in that whole aspect of what makes ND special, he should go to Duke or Stanford.

I really hope we land him... A+ abilities on and off the field. But not walking down the street to this game (or coming up for Michigan) is flat out weird if we're the team to beat. Don't you want to see how the coaches coach? Player interaction? What it feels like to be on the sideline? I don't get it.

I agree with this. The apathy angle it's a tad odd.

Like I said, maybe football isn't that important in his life and it's just a way to pay for college. No real difference than someone taking a job with a company that pays for your school then after graduating, gets a job in the field they went to school for. This is certainly not the norm we see with recruiting, but there's always exceptions to the rule.

Do we want someone on our team that views football "as just a way to pay for college?"

I think we want guys that are passionate about the sport. Because the second they find another way to pay for college they may bolt.

Evidently he plays it with a passion. He's pretty damn good. I'm thinking he was brought up to do his best in whatever endeavor he was partaking in. Do your best in football to pay for a degree from a college that is going to set you up for the rest of your life?

I still want. I'm not worried about his disinterest in driving to see teams.

If I was a recruit, I'd be exhausted from the recruiting circus. He's likely more of an introvert and truly detests this process. I don't blame him.

He still looks like a player and I hope we get him (especially because we don't have many other options.)

This is how I see it:

He is down to ND and scUM. He wants to get on campus to see what game day is like but not when we play the only other team he is considering. Would not be able to gather in the whole experience when his other choice is getting a beat down.

He could go to the game in Indy because it is right in his backyard. If he truly doesn't like the whole recruiting process, why go to this game? He isn't going to see the student body, campus, etc. Wait until he can go to a game ON CAMPUS that isn't against scUM.

If he truly does not like all the hype of recruiting but wants to make it to campus for one game at each school, this makes sense to me.

Loy is at Ben Davis tonight covering the game. He'll be interviewing HC, Bilal and have highlights. Quick quote from coach prior to game. "If I had it my way, he'd be going to ND." The expectation is quite a few from the ND staff show up. Will post more as it comes.

If reports of his GPA are accurate he likely already has another way to pay for college, and he hasn't hung up the cleats yet.

Nothing to takeaway from Loy's interview with him other than it's noticeable that he's uncomfortable talking about recruiting. He's fine talking football but when the recruiting subject comes up the mood changes. He said that he will take visits but not sure when. Physically he looks great. Seems to have added some weight and just overall looks more developed.

Kinda seems like he turns off these guys who hound him about the process. I bet his personality is a lot different when he is talking to coaches, players, etc. who he has a closer relationship.

We really have no idea, do we? Though I can sympathize with the kids who are turned off by the whole recruiting/recruiting reporting scene. It is all a little gross.
That said, it's a bit ironical that some on here are talking down a talented kid who maybe sees football as "just a way to pay for college." Given how well we've done with the "football first" types in recent years.

I really like Asmar from what I've seen. In the interview with Loy he seemed very levelheaded and humble. Plus he's a hell of a player. I would love for him to choose ND but I'd wish him luck wherever he goes. Seems like a good, smart kid. I'll always root for the quiet kids who shy away from the limelight and don't eat up all the attention that being a top recruit brings. I give him a lot of credit for the way he's handled his recruitment so far...or at least what I know of it. Not putting it before his current team and his senior season and remaining low key and humble.

Big props to Asmar from me. Hope he chooses ND.

Agree. This kid is the complete opposite of what we typically see on this board...in a good way.

I want him, but he has a way to go IMO. Definitely not a thumper and doesn't seem to shed blocks with easy or physically stand out.

While I agree with the premise of this post. It takes a lot to play football at ND. Keep in mind guys that we are one of the, if no the largest national fanbases. Those interviews that the ND players do. They're coached on that stuff because of how many people view them. It's a brand and it does take a level of want to be a part of that. He just may not want that.

Agreed based on that tape. Just looked tentative, not overly explosive. But we don't have many options so I don't know who else we could be after. If the staff wants him, I want him.

Doesn't all of that apply to Michigan?
