So imagine you are a top recruit in the class of 2014, every program in the country wants you, staying close to home isn't a priority, and you didn't have a favorite college football team growing up. You are basically a blank slate. In fact, if it helps, imagine that you are someone like Bjorn Werner who is not from the United States, so the whole college football system is new to you and you have no preconceived notions.

Where would you go?

For me if would definitely be Stanford. I don't even think it's hard. But I'm interested in your thoughts.

Position would matter but most likely Alabama or Stanford. If I was a TE though maybe ND, If I was a DB maybe LSU etc

Notre Dame ;)

Their are really wayyyyyy too many aspects of selecting a school that would be factored in to this. It would all depend on most of the following... Academics, Prestige, Playing Time, Championship Contender, Weather/Location, Facilities, Coaches, Position...and I'm sure their are a ton more.

Depending on how highly/lowly you prioritize those factors would decide on where you play. So for me, I would probably pick somewhere like Stanford or ND...but I still think that's a bias selection

Success, Academics, Fan base, and beauty of the campus would be my top traits in a school

Officials:

Stanford
Notre Dame
Michigan
USC
Alabama

Final 3:
Notre Dame
Stanford
USC

Notre Dame over Stanford because of learning about there tradition, game day atmosphere, and huge fan base that Stanford doesn't have.

Taking ND out of it... it's impossible not to and give any other answer for me...

Bama or Stanford... At bama you get paid and don't go to class and have a great chance of winning and going pro... Stanford... speaks for itself.

Good point ACamp....ND would be my first choice, KU would have the pull of the hometown deal, but in this scenario I would officially visit:

Alabama
Oregon
Stanford
Georgia/LSU
Texas/Virginia Tech

Probably end up going Stanford, but Oregon and Texas because of location/facilities etc. would make a push. Overall Stanford package would win out......

and that's why the real and only answer for me is Notre Dame.

My answer should surprise no one-- Stanford and ND are the only programs considered.

If I'm Caucasian or my non-football aspirations require graduate school, I pick Stanford.

If I'm African-American or I just want to maximize earning potential through an undergraduate degree (Mendoza College of Business), I pick ND.

I love Lawrence Camper, luckily I played at Baker which is an NAIA school about 15 minutes from Lawrence.

I thought about UNC too, went w/ Va Tech b/c of success on the field, but really Fedora might be better to go w/ now than old Beamer.

I would first probably hire an agent and then have Bama, LSU, Oregon, and USC bid for me.

My 5 official visits would be Stanford, Notre Dame, Georgia, Northwestern and Vanderbilt.

Would take it from there and then decide based on my perceived best fit of academics, support, coaching staff & comfort, players on the team, position use and depth chart, etc.

Being from california, I would unofficial to USC, UCLA, CAL, and Stanford...

As for my officials: (in my 17yr old mind)

Oregon- Crazy fans and getting to try on the uniforms and see their facilities would be freakin awesome

Arizona St- This would be strictly due to my desire to re-enact the scene from "He Got Game"...Girls, girls, and more girls...

Florida- Beautiful weather...I would be a hybrid RB/WR...In other words, the next Percy Harvin...

Notre Dame- Self-explanatory

LSU- Food, facilities, and Females

Biased Decision- ND (For the reasons Whiskey stated above)

Unbiased- Oregon (Sports busniess program is one of the best in the world)

Officials:

Arizona State- Ladies & weather
USC- Ladies & Ladies & weather & sabatoge
Stanford- akademics & beautiful campus
LSU- campus atmosphere & 1 on 1 w/ Les haha
ND- da BOMB!

It's hard for me to put my fandom aside. I'd have to say ND although Stanford is close. More fan support and Palo Alto would be a no brainer!

Final Three:

Choice: Stanford

Basically it's what cities I'd want to live in. Austin, TX would be hard to turn down.

Yeah I think Stanford would take it away, even though they're really arrogant. Did you know they refer to ND as "Northern Indiana Parochial College"?

Ha really? Funny ...

... kind of ... I mean is that a dig? It's just a description of our school. "Northern California Non-Sectarian Private School That Looks Like A Farm." Am I doing this right?

Anyway, you just have to ignore arrogance. Lots of people around me don't like ND because they say ND is arrogant. There are a few arrogant bad apples in every barrel. I try not to sweat it.

So many people picking Stanford and I'm curious how many people have actually been to Stanford. I have many, many times since graduating on the account of a slew of my friends being in grad school out there.

Simply put, there are a LOT of advantages that ND has over Stanford and as an elite (5:s:) recruit I would choose ND 10/10 times. ND has two negatives... not quite as prestigious academically, worse weather.

The college experience in South Bend trumps Palo Alto for your typical athlete (no, I am not being sarcastic). The coaching trumps Stanford's. The exposure trumps Stanford's. The game day experience and everything else related to actually playing football (national games against big time opponents, trips to Ireland, Shamrock Series, etc.) blow Stanford away. Your academic support trumps Stanford's. The facilities trump Stanford's. The girls/parties trump Stanford's (seriously). ND is (arguably) in a much better position long term to compete for championships. There is a reason why we win the vast majority of recruiting battles against Stanford and flip quite a few recruits. For probably 80% of top notch recruits ND is unarguably a better overall fit.

Depends where you're from and how good you are. If I'm a 5-star super athlete, completely unbiased and have no childhood favorites, I'm going to a place with decent depth, super facilities, is a BCS team, and low academic standards (I want to workout and play video games). I'm focusing on 3 years of football and hitting the league.

If I'm a borderling 3/4 star guy, or even questionable 5-star guy, I'm seriously considering ND, Stanford, or someone who offers it all.

Well I would be going to high school in South Bend so Notre Dame would obviously get a hard look. I would be a CAT linebacker, and I would be 6'3" 240 pounds going into college.

I want a good defense, tradition, good relationship with coaches, good atmosphere, and hot girls don't hurt either.

Top 10- Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Clemson, LSU, Stanford, USC, Notre Dame, Texas, and Florida State.

Top 5- Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Notre Dame

Top 3- Alabama, Georgia, and Notre Dame

All the way up until my decision on NSD, I will go on and on about how I love Bama and Georgia but nor really mention Notre Dame. Everyone on IE will be freaking out and saying "how can Coach Kelly let a 5* recruit in his own backyard get away!?". Then I will make my decision to Notre Dame!

I know Notre Dame doesn't have very hot girls but they do have some. And football players at Notre Dame have an unlimited amount of booty calls.

I took ND out of my options... and then took Stanford... I couldn't look at this objectively with ND being any kind of option.

Yeah, if that's the intent of the thought experiment, I'd almost surely pick Stanford. Or UVA to stay close to home. Or USC possibly.

Virginia and Wake would be on my list also... though "objectively" does not compute when the letters 'U' 'S' 'C' are put together... I was just asked eariler today if i would take a teaching job or admin. position at SC if it were offered with big bucks... HELL. NO.

:)

USC would be tough to pass up. Nationally relevant, great weather, women, manageable class schedule, and you get to be a top 15 team all of the time and play a relatively easy schedule. Lack of competition = remaining healthy.
