I don't think we were worried about Rice's run game, like at all. I would expect that % to go down quite a bit playing a power run team like Michigan.

I think the more appropriate title would be "Spread the new base O?"

What Golden said. I expect Michigan to run some more power at us then attempt to catch us off guard with PA. I'd be surprised if we have nickel out there except for third and long or if they try to go empty backfield/trips.

Yeah, and I expect to see some different personnel against UM. More Councell for sure. Maybe more Randolph and Deeb too. Get those bigger bodies out there.

This against Michigan. More Nickle/Dime against spread teams. I doubt we see as much of Onwualu against Michigan.

Onwualu is basically a SS playing Sam anyways, you could argue ND defense is in a nickel 100% of the time.

It's a 4-2-5 defense

The fact is if teams are speeding up tempo, it doesn't allow you to put sub packages in depending on down and distance. Having an athletic 4-2-5 or whatever you would like to call it allows you to cover all basis on defense. College and pro football has changed so much that SPEED is key. If Michigan wants to run spread, great we will be fine. If they want to run a power style, fine. Bottom line is we need to tackle much better this week. I thought on Saturday we missed a lot of tackles.

It's the trend in college and the NFL. the 49ers spent a first round pick on a nickle back.

Who on the hell is Robinson????

Devin Gardner, formerly known as Denard "Shoelace" Robinson. He adopted an alias so he can continue ripping out Irish hearts before choking the rest of the year.

It wasn't just missing. It was guys making the tackle but getting dragged for 2-3 yards before getting the guy down and/or backup arrived.

And Jaylon would, athletically speaking, trump plenty of nickles out there in the football world anyway.
