Well, 100% is the same as 100%, so...no.

That's complete nonsense. NOTHING is 100% in recruiting (unless your name is Hoge). Especially considering how much Tillery flirts with LSU.

C'mon man, I can't believe even you truly think he is 100%. We're still in top spot, but 100%? Wow.

ND has done a wonderful job recruiting the O-line with most of the success going to Heistand. Alford is elite, I'm just saying the staff as a whole I don't think is elite.

Not what you said at all. You said "a staff without elite recruiters". I agree with the above, and think they have two - Alford and Hiestand. Cooks is very good as well.

And you still haven't said how specifically LSU is out recruiting ND for Jerry.

I think they're "out recruiting" in the sense of putting pressure on him if that's what is meant. There are even quotes to the effect of two LSU coaches "smothering" Jerry... whereas he talks to Hiestand maybe once a week. Jerry's coach talked about this.

Some kids dont like to be "smothered"

sorry, but it is a little tiring hearing that the staff "isnt trying as hard" or is "being out-recruited" for a LA kid and the other team being LSU. He may end up flipping to LSU, but that does not mean the staff is not trying hard or is being out-recruited. LSU is in his backyard and he grew up around it, it is not far-fetched.

It just seems like you are trying to nitpick and start something to bring up later down the road if Kelly leaves or gets fired. "Well, he kept getting out-recruited or did not try very hard." This is his job, his career, why would he not do what is best for the team and himself? If the staff is not trying, that means that do not want him, a la Mattingly. period. end of story.

Not sure why any hand wringing going on here. Bars and Nelson are ahead of him at tackle this year and will be redshirted. We also look great for Eichenberg and Kreamer in 2016 so if we lose Tillery I just don't see the angst. He is or will be behind Elmer, McGlinchney, Bars and Nelson by the time he arrives.

This is not like an elite DL we would be trying to keep committed. ND needs more elite recruiters on the DL rather than the OL at this point.

My view is, Heistand has been aces, and he's hardly some kid off the turnip truck. He's either got it locked down, or there's nothing else he can do. But if Heistand doesn't have our full confidence in his skill and judgement in recruiting, given the level of recruit he's been scoring for the program, then, really, nobody does.

Bingo.
It is completely and utterly natural for someone in Tillery's position to be recruited by LSU, and for there to be at least some interest on his part. That doesn't mean we're being out-recruited; it means LSU's close to home and we aren't and that matters to his mom and maybe to some of his friends and their opinions matter to him. (though if he takes OVs to other places like Texas and especially Stanford I'd start to get worried)>
As for his apparently being a fan of LSU: Sure. Why wouldn't he? I suspect a lot of these kids view college football differently than we do and that includes the possibility of being a fan of your hometown team even if you're planning to go elsewhere (and it's not like he's going to Bama or Arkansas. LSU and Notre Dame aren't really rivals).
ANyway, point is, Tillery might jump. If he does, it'll suck but I'd have a hard time agreeing that it's part of some larger failure in our recruiting efforts. It's unusual enough that we got his commitment in the first place. And he appears to be an unusual enough kid that he may well stick with us.

This is why we're not in meltdown mode. Doesn't mean we can't state the obvious- which is that this kid's actions are not those of a "solid" commit.

I have to believe that the staff feels comfortable with contacting him once a week instead of smothering him. Smothering could turn out to be bad for LSU. He might grow tired of the constant pressure. Besides, when you are the leader, you stay the course that got you there. You don't change your plan of attack unless you are failing or lag behind which is the case for LSU.

Holy crap. Who throws up a 300+ pounder on pushups? We must have some hardcore recruit hosts these days.
