Serious question because Whiskey brought it up a few posts earlier in this thread.

Why do OLs seem to prioritize degree value? Why do OLs seem to be more willing to go up north? Also, why are OLs (again, generally) more likely to stick to a school rather than play the recruiting game and decommit? Anyone have any thoughts on this? Or am I wrong in my assumption in the first place?

Check out the average Wonderlic scores by position. OL are generally the smartest guys on the team.

It's all about growth and size.

Infants that grow greatly from conception (as far as can be measured by superior head circumference growth) to one year after birth have a better chance at having larger and better developed brains.

Larger brains are more likely to perform better by having more "gray matter" to throw at the problem. Better developed brains perform better by being able to make more connections. So a larger, better developed brain is going to push most functions to a higher level, thus a higher Wonderlic score, and more intelligent choices. The only exception is that women's brains are smaller than men's on average, and are wired better to function in certain situations, including most social interactions.

I even think the truisms I expressed can be proven as semi-accurate.

I hypothesize that most of those words do indeed mean some things.

Surely someone's intelligence can't be based on their physical builds though? It's hard to believe that a 6-5 330 pound lineman is likely to be inherently smarter than a 6-2 195 pound wide receiver just because.

Well...

So many interesting things to discuss regarding what you brought up.

First of all... The OL has the lowest bling factor of any position besides the kicking game. It's not a position where one expresses himself. It's a team first position, not a look at me and my stats position. You only know someone is doing their job when the defense isn't high five-ing after a big play... or if there is a once in a season pancake block...which is still very very low on the average fan meter.

So being that it's not a look at me position... you don't get the wishy washy kids who are "fully committed" - to what ever school last called him promising him he'll carry the ball every snap till he leaves school after his junior year as the #1 draft pick.... which a RB won't ever be again and ironically... besides QB, is most likely to be a wait for it... OL.

The physical side of why OL are not stars in high school like the QB/RB/WR is... as a whole, 99% are not physically mature enough to play the position at the next level... so the guy with the mic in his hand doesn't know if the OL will ever be the 6-6 320 LT in 5 years because as he's interviewing him... he's 6-5, 270lbs and that will only get you on the field at the D3 level your senior year in college.

There are some SES angles that probably hold water but this board is too young and still too liberal to believe any of those stereotypes could be a factor.

I bring nothing to the table on the rest of your post, but as for the bolded:

Fat guys love cold weather.

I'm a fat guy. I love cold weather.

I think it is as simple as a personality thing. Olinemen, compared to other positions, do not have big ego's. They are not in the limelight like most of the other positions. They are more grounded in their view of the world. The stud WR, CB, QB, DL is always in the limelight and no matter how well mannered they are, they get use to it, it forms their personality. I think Elijah Hood is a good example of this. Great kid, belonged at ND, but he was molded a certain way and was not ready for a big change like that. Lots of people at the skill positions have that ego or personality, Olinemen do not have it as often.

Because they realize early that swimsuit model or Hollywood hunk are not viable career choices.

I think part of it is the lack of ego's compared to the "Star" athletes that get all the press. They don't get swelled heads and have all the distractions that attention brings.

We all know the excitement of a visit can start to fade, but let's hope this win and the atmosphere was so great that this isn't going to happen.
