Well the guys, and gals, its that time of year again. We are less than 7 days until our Notre Dame Fighting Irish take the field again for the 2014 season. Time to close up the pool and take the boat off the lake. There are no weekends, its just work and football. What are your final thoughts, on our season, and any other football team you pull for. Things your excited about. Things you are worried for. Predictions. Favorite players. Hell, anything related to football to pass this final week.

And lets never forget #FUCKMICHIGAN

I am looking forward to a much faster paced offense. Also looking forward to being able to confuse other teams on both sides of the ball. If could ask for one thing this year other than a NC it would be that they could collect what is left of Michigan after the game in 2 baskets.

I don't realistically expect us to be in the hunt this year, but I would've said the same about 2012. Just win

If we get the guys back from academics, this team has more talent than 2012, although there is no ELITE position group (i.e. front 7 like 2012) that can takeover a game. On top of that, the youth + Golson being gone for a year = I have no clue what to expect.

1. Our redzone offense is basically the only thing that is keeping this offense... even with Tommy Rees at the helm... from scoring 35+ a game. That SHOULD get better this year.

2. If Golson has learned how to accurately throw the deep ball, there are only 5 teams on our schedule that even have the personnel to run with our full compliment of receivers. Michigan, Stanford, USC, FSU, and Louisville. No one else should even be able to slow down our passing attack if Golson can hit the guys when they try to stretch the field.

3. Biggest enigma to me is how much "up tempo" we will run, and how well that will work.

4. Second biggest enigma is if this defense will be any good at all.

5. Third biggest enigma is what happens if the injury bug strikes again in the front 7. "Depth" is having guys like Kona Schwenke in your 2 deep... there are no Kona Schwenkes this year.

6. I think our most overrated opponent is ASU, who is going to have a great offense and mediocre-to-bad defense. I'll be surprised if they're even ranked when we play.

7. I think our most underrated opponents are Louisville and Michigan. Michigan, because their defense really might be great this year (but their OL might negate all that if they can't move the ball on the ground). Louisville, because Petrino should have that team overperform.

8. I'm not convinced our OL will be good, especially early in the season. But the raw talent is there.

9. There isn't a team on our schedule we can't beat, except maybe FSU but I'm not convinced they're as good as people think.

10. There isn't a team on our schedule we can't lose to, save maybe Rice and Purdue.

I agree that FSU isn't as good as everyone thinks i don't think Fisher is a good coach he just has a lot of talent and i don't think Winston will have the yr he had last yr I've always thought especially in the 90's FSU benefits heavily from a weak schedule.

It is August and I live in NC- there is no way I'm taking the boat off the lake!!!

I think that we finally have an offense that is going to be fun to watch. Like everyone I am worried about the LB's, but I'm hoping that the overall athleticism on D makes up for the inexperience. I'm glad Gholston;) is back at QB!

If we don't beat Michigan all bets are off. I think it's the most important game this year. We have to beat them and beat them bad. I think we'll win but I'm afraid it's going to be a real nail-biter. I sure hope I'm wrong. A narrow win won't do much for the team's confidence and that could be a real problem.

I hate to say things like "it all depends on..." but I really think the quarterback position is going to dictate how this season goes. If EG plays like he did in 2012, I think we're a 7-5 football team. If he plays to his potential and makes significant strides on the mental side of the game, I see 11-1 as a real possibility. We couldn't out score teams in 2012 and we'll need to do so this year.

I think people are looking at the receivers with rose colored glasses. It could very well be that Davaris Daniels will be lost for the season. That leaves us seriously short of experience on the outside. With Tori Hunter, Jr being out for close to half of the season, there's been a definite loss of talent at the position.

I don't really know what to think. I don't think we are gonna be very good some days, then some days I feel good. I am honestly gonna take this season week by week.

Receiver is honestly the position where experience is needed the least. Despite the fact that Daniels was the most experienced, I think that guys like Robinson, Brown, Fuller, Brent all have the potential to be better. Especially Robinson and Brown this year.

We need to beat Michigan. That can't be overstated. I know we have the talent and coaching to grind them into the artificially produced ground, but it just seems like ND always has an miraculously terrible game against Michigan (even in 2012 when they won).

I think this season comes down to how the defense comes together. Most concerned about inside LB play and be able to stop the short "dink and dunks" that killed us last year. Special teams can only improve over the last two years. I expect the offense to explode at times and wrestle with consistency at other times.

If all things go our way I think we could finish 11-1 and make it to the playoffs...just don't believe it will happen.

I would be happy to finish 9-3 as long as it includes wins over Michigan, Stanford and USC.

If the spread/up-tempo offense works the only team I'm really worried about is Stanford. Look at what they do to Oregon every year.

I agree with many of you. With my Irish glasses on I can see 11 wins, but in reality I'm terrified of a 6-6 season. Every game I will need liquid courage but damn it if I won't think we'll win them all when the ball gets kicked off. Either way I'm excited as hell. I love watching and cheering for my home town professional teams but nothing compares to Notre Dame football. Go Irish!!!

Oh, and Fuck Michigan.

The Receiver group is going to be incredibly important to this offense. We should have a very good running game, but not if teams don't have to respect our passing game. Brown, Robinson, and Fuller had a grand total of 21 catches last season. Brent obviously had none. This running game is also going to need good downfield blocking if it is going to be elite. That's going to come from the recievers......... or not.

The lack of catches is something I'm not that concerned with, because regardless, they're basically starting fresh with a new QB. Guys like Robinson, Brent and Prosise should be dominant run blockers and let's not forget Tyler the Defense Defiler (...might need a better nickname...). That boy will just run anybody in front of him over, so I'm not too worried about the runningbacks getting their blocks.

Really? You're not worried that our most productive returning receiver had only 15 catches in 13 games last season? How long have you been watching football?

Who the fuck is that? The Freshman? How about we let him play one game of big boy football before we pencil him in for 80-ish catches and bone crushing blocks?

And, yeah........... that nickname is weaker than Richard Pryor's will power at a cocaine part.

WR is the easiest position group of them all to get by with inexperience or a relative lack of talent. Andrew Luck had no talent at all around him and put up Heisman-esque numbers multiple times. The WRs around Oregon QBs are never true NFL caliber players. IF your QB grasps an offense well or you have a good system, then you can get by with mediocre-to-bad WRs. You don't need a Floyd or Tate or in CFB... because the DBs generally aren't good enough.

Whether Daniels is back or not makes a difference. But even if he isn't, you have three explosive players (Carlisle, Brown, Fuller) that will stretch defenses... you just have to be able to hit them. And then you have some "possession" or short yardage players... plus a group of TEs that is going to at least be competent.

The Shark hadn't done shit before he dominated in 2005. Nor did Stovall. Just the way things work sometimes... just because these guys were young and stuck behind a 4 year starter, a 2 year starter upperclassmen, and a 2nd round draft pick tight end.

Jeez Moose, who pissed in your Cheerios today? Would I like to have an experienced returning receiver? Sure, but that advantage diminishes if a new QB is throwing the ball. The fact is that this WR corp, green as they maybe, is full of insane talent and they're diverse.

This. I don't think Luck was completely devoid of talent around him, but yeah, outside of Fleener, nobody truly memorable. There is just so much variety and talent in this group. Luatua may be a freshman, but like most of the freshmen from this class, he sure as hell doesn't look like it.

I get that we have a different QB throwing the ball around, however, I think the biggest impact on this young receiving corp will be our ability to run the football. We have to keep the LB's from cheating...they need to respect the run first. Scares me to death that we might not have DD.

If we win only 9 games and beat all 3 of those opponents, then something went seriously wrong...
