I'm thinking tonight might be the highest rated preseason MNF ever.

I've already had to eat crow regarding Manziel.

Good for him.

But I don't think he's gonna be the savior of Cleveland.

Do y'all?

I'm on the Manziel train. However I also still believe in Lynch and Shepherd, and predicted DD would be a top 3 WR in all of CFB this year.

The Browns should start the season with Hoyer and move to Manziel if Hoyer doesn't get it done. It will be easier to move from Hoyer to Manziel than vice versa.

Is anyone watching this MNF game? What the fuck is the NFL doing with these defensive holding penalties. It is unwatchable.

The flag tossing is foolish .

RG 3 with the false start , fake snaps ? That does not look like he is baiting the D .

My god it's horrible...five plays in a row with a flag on the ground. Good goal line stand though!

SO MANY FLAGS

JFF looks horrible so far. Really struggling with timing and accuracy throwing down the field, but that might also be on the receivers.

How is JFF looking? I am one of those who doesn't believe he can get it done. Willing to eat crow if I'm wrong.

He just completed the Brown's first pass with 11:00 minutes to go in the 2nd Qtr. Both QB's have looked like garbage.

As a Brown's fan it sucks to have to watch horrific offenses year after year. I mean seriously they have to have a NFL offense at some point.

Anyone else just see Manziel flip the bird a minute ago? Gotta think that will get a fine.

If I'm the Browns, im starting Manziel week 1. Hoyer has zero upside. JFF is a better passer and he can extend plays with his legs. Hes only gonna get better the more he plays.

As a Steelers fan, I hope JFF starts week 1 too

Idk man. Hoyer played pretty well last season when he got his extended opportunity.

But I also think that in some cases, you just have to throw the rookies to the fire. Some need a year or two to sit and learn, but I don't think Manziel is one of those guys. Hoyer can play well if he starts, but will level out. I think if Manziel starts, it will start badly but steadily get better over the year, and ultimately end up at a higher point than Hoyer can take them.

It just depends if the Browns are willing to deal with the growing pains, or if they place more value on simply serviceable performances.

I don't agree with any of this.

You gotta be careful with JF. This isn't Texas A&M. This isn't the SEC. He's struggling in preseason against vanilla defenses and backups. Sure, you want him to get reps but you don't want him to take a beating either. He's a small guy. His scrambling ability helps but guys are faster, bigger, stronger. He will pay. The Browns need to be careful.

I will admit to this:

It is exciting to see the competitor Johnny is once he gets attention like the Orakpo sack and gesture. You can see the fire he has, and it elevates him to a different level.

It is admirable that he gets better and seems to be in his element when people try to get after him. It's like it's fuel for him.

I ate crow on Manziel.

Now I hope the browns start him. He has a different element.

He and West, long with their receivers and the rookie receiver, they're gonna be tough!

If Johnny is the starter it's more because Hoyer sucks than he's ready.

Mike Tomczak was a better QB than Ryan Leaf, but it still didn't make him an NFL starter. Right now, Johnny Douchebag is the Browns' "great white hope". He is the only thing keeping all of Cleveland from lining up for the chance to jump from the E. 9th St. Bridge. Start Manziel and he fails (as he is likely to do), and you lose the hope that everyone is holding on to. Lose that hope, and your revenues will fall through the floor.

I take it that you didn't watch him last night?

It was pretty much how I expected his game to translate, except it was against vanilla alignments and a mixed batch of starters and backups. Once the regular season starts, things may get real ugly for him.

The rookie Bryant (?), Gordon when he gets back, and any other soul.

Don't forget Hawkins!

I was pissed when the Bengals let Baby Hawk get away (though I shouldn't complain too much... they HAD to let him go because the rest of the position is set up so nicely).

I did watch the game.

It was baby steps. I'll agree.

But there is athleticism that can't be replaced. The blocking for Cleveland was atrocious, and he didn't get sacked half as many times as he should have.

He needs to make reads quicker and know his progressions, but I think in time it will come.

I look at where he is vs other QBs with similar experience, and I'm impressed.

I didn't say it was baby steps, ha.

Get used to what you saw last night, Cando. His athleticism isn't above the athleticism of the NFL, like it was in college. You can just scamper around like a fairy and make magic in the NFL. Literally no one has been able to do that in this league. Johnny Football isn't going to be the first.

I literally haven't seen a single thing from him in the preseason yet that should be encouraging to a Browns fan. Especially him losing his cool last night. It's freaking preseason, how in the hell do you lose your cool in a preseason game? Wait until the regular season, when shit gets real.
