Had a great time fishing Spring Creek near State College this weekend. If anyone lives out there and wants to hit them up, let me know.

Awesome buck, FBolt.

Duck season is around the corner in my parts. I'm pretty pumped. This is my favorite time of the year. ND football, duck hunting and fishing for big uglies with my spey rod.

This year in particular has been splendid on all fronts. ND is 4-0, Moved home to my favorite duck haunts and the rivers are packed with fish. Life is good.

Great looking buck, Fbolt! I gained access to hunt my boss's property (20 acres) in IL. No longer working MO public ground!!!

All your fish pics, wooly, really make me wanna fly fish. Not many trout streams in STL though...

Thanks homie. You should get into it. You have great warmwater fishing (bass, blugill, etc) in your area and live 4 hours from some of the best trout fishing in the country. The North Fork of the White is awesome. Big fish and lots of them. You should get a guide for a day and learn the sport and that system. You'll thank me.

Felt good getting in the woods yesterday to do a little deer scouting. The woods are good for the soul.

Looking at expanding my arsenal. Savage FCP HS in 300 win mag. Could be a yardage enhancer and allow me to take game out to 6-700 yards. Although I'll need some serious bench time.

Already have a Savage 10 FCP in 308 with fluted barrel but feel it's under powered for large game elk-Red Stag!!!.

Mine: Savage fcp110 HS in 300 win mag with Bushnell Elite tact 6-24x50. It'll be a beast carrying but really, I do not care.

Hey y'all! Wanted to check in and see how everyone's hunting seasons are going?!?! I am on way to my first whitetail hunt of the yr. I packed up the family and the silveraido and drove 12 hours yesterday and knocking out the remaining 6 hour to the family farm in Lawton, MI. Gonna hang my stands this afternoon and by tomorrow afternoon I'll be sitting. Hoping to arrow a couple Michigan whitetails and hopefully posting some pics this week! I hope everyone is having a safe and successful hunting season.

Good luck my brother.

The pops had a deer tag (muzzleloader) last week that I really really wanted to help him out with, just couldn't make the trip back to NM with the wedding around the corner. He saw some massive Bulls but no Mulie action.

I will be putting in for Elk as well as deer in NM and/or AZ next year, God willing. Can't wait to get out of FL and back to the mountains.

Does this thread include snowboarding? After a business trip, I'm staying over in Breck with some friends to hit the mountain for a 2.5 day warm-up before the real snow starts falling.

With my wedding a few weeks ago, I haven't been able to get out in the woods at all. I'm hoping to here soon, however, since I just got access to 20 private acres in southern IL that hasn't been hunted in 30 years. Saying that I can't wait to see what's out there is an understatement.

Good luck FLDomer! Be sure to report back!

Where in Southern Illinois? I bought a house near Marion on 20 acres. No one has hunted the land in at least 10 years. I saw three bucks this morning at the end of my driveway.

Just south of Waterloo. About halfway between Waterloo and Red Bud so not quite as south as you but most people consider anything south of I-80 southern IL. You guys actually just stomped my boys in the football playoffs last weekend.

Well I am back from my trip, with no deer but awesome hunts and great times with the family. The weather and moon were never really cooperating but I still saw deer and had a great time. Upon reviewing the trail came picks my cousin had set it looked like most of the shooter bucks were moving in the early hours of the morning around 4 am. Here are some pics of the trip which started out with temps in the 40s ending with temps in the teens.

1st sit of the hunt.

lil forky I passed on the second morning

My kids wishing Daddy luck (probably getting their lil scent all over me :( )

and than the snow came along with my Florida blood freezing

my beautiful family enjoying their 1st time in snow!

second to last morning and 19 degrees.

Aw man, looks like a great hunt. Too bad you didn't give anything a dirt nap, it looks like you had some good spots.

I went out last weekend to do some duck and deer hunting down in Carterville, IL. Ducks on Crab Orchard and deer in Giant City.

These shovelers are beautiful.

everyone's getting out there-which is great. Nice fam pics, nice ducks, dogs, and property shots. Good luck!

Suburban hunts for me haven't been all to good. Headed out to the lease in Nebraska for a few days (bow/muzzle) for some more time out there. Should be a good time with some crazy f-ers.

I hate the cold as well, which is why I ended up purchasing an IWOM. Have enjoyed it so far but haven't put it through it's paces yet. This next hunt will do that with high's forecast to be in the lower to mid 30s.

Anyone here knowledgeable with ice fishing?

I'm primarily a fly fisherman and really know nothing at all about ice fishing. What are the best techniques and tackle? Targeted species? Tips for having a good time?

I want to try it out, but don't really know where to start.

Pull up a bucket my friend... here, have some homemade mulberry brandy.

Start with panfish. Get a light rod, some waxies and a spring bobber (not the actual spring ones, just the little metal one that attaches to the rod). Grab your bucket and an auger and go to a lake you are familiar with. Sit on said bucket, and fish in the areas that you know have structures like drop offs or sunken islands.

Then graduate to a shanty and a vexilar. Drink heavily. Fill your bucket with crappie.

Do you usually fish the same hole the entire day? What about depth -- are certain species usually hunkering down whereas others can be found more near the surface?

Sometimes I fish the same hole if we are routinely catching fish or the fish are on a circling pattern (in some lakes, the fish swim in circles around the lake all day). But I fish with a vexilar, that not only shows the fish, but also my jig. So I know exactly what's going on below me. I also don't like moving my shanty because i'm usually drunk.

When in doubt, use a depth finder to find the bottom, put a bobber stop (essentially a piece of string) on the line where it is just above it. Then fish that depth. In most scenarios it is better to fish deep than suspended if you dont have a fish finder.

For those that participated last year, many thanks. The Wounded Warrior hunt is going to happen again this year. We are raffling off 3 Benelli Super Black Eagle shotguns with the hope of raising enough cash to take 2 wounded vets hunting, complete with gear. Further, this year the plan is to video the hunts and display them on the Buck Obsession television show. If interested, stay tuned.
