Dude, its a National Rivalry.

USC-Stanford is a rivalry too, and Oregon-MSU is a pretty incredible non-conference matchup. Not to mention both of those games will likely both feature two top-15 teams. ND should be top-15 by Michigan weekend, but Michigan will likely be unranked.

This is apples to oranges though. Each of these games brings something different to the table. USC-Stanford has huge conference implications early in the season, Oregon-MSU is a rare (and fantastic) matchup, and ND-Michigan is a the last meeting of a historic rivalry.

ESPN can't lose by picking any of the three, but I'd still be surprised if they picked ND-Michigan. Oregon-MSU is likely to feature the highest-ranked combination of teams and USC-Stanford is on their own network. Free advertising.

It was a national rivalry in 2012, and 2010, and 2008, and 2006, and 2004, and so on. Still not on Gameday.

This being the final game in the rivalry and a night game, I think it's a special exception.

But it will be the last meeting between the two teams in the near future.

Might be reason enough amigo.

ehhh

As much as I'd love to see GameDay there, I don't think it is large enough for ESPN to give NBC hours of advertising instead of pumping up their own game.

I still maintain that someone should go with the simple "Notre Dame football: pissing you off since 1887."

I'd bet on MSU-Oregon. Smash mouth, old style football program versus west coast video game offense. Rose Bowl/Big 10 champ against perpetual Pac-12 contender. And, yeah, I don't see ESPN being there to promote NBC's broadcast.

Well, MSU vs Oregon will be shown on FOX.

I don't think there's any chance it's Stanford and USC.

It may not be ND/Michigan, but they're not taking USC/Stanford over the Oregon/MSU game. There's no reason to considering the Oregon/MSU teams are higher rated.

The only ratings that ESPN is going to care about, is the Neilsen Ratings. And they are not going to pump up a game being shown on a rival network, if they have a reasonably big game on their own family of networks. They may very well end up at Oregon/MSU, because of the (presumed)Top 10 rankings of the teams, but it sure as hell isn't any lock. And there is plenty of reason to stage Gameday at the site of a game shown by their own family network.

Can we go back to making signs. Like:

"I'd be angry about this series ending too if my only rivals left were Ohio St. and Appalachian St."

Love it. Or "We put turf 'cause the Gardener sucked"

And what are you going to do, when a Michigan fan stands right next to you with a sign that says, "41-30"?

You can't bash an opposing QB who just beat you, last season. Not for his play on the field, anyway.
