Smith's problem in his pass set isn't slow feet or knee bend. It's lack.of experience and technique, things he will pick up when he gets to college.

Regarding Montelus' height, I believe Kelly even referenced him only being about 6-3 in his signing day presser.

What Kelly said in the presser on Montellus was he's probably not 6-5 but he's well over 6-3. I'd call him 6-4 and be done with it. Smith has the ability to play G or T but I really think G is his best position.

Fits the profile of a RT, if his pass blocking ability is so questionable then I could see him move to guard

I think sometimes when people see OT they automatically jump to the prototypical LT and ignore the importance of RT

If he was to come to ND by the time he sees the field it could be LT, because most likely Zaire would be the starter.

I don't care what position he lines up at, just get him and worry about that later.

Sorry, I just think it's funny we're talking about a kid with elite size, length, and athleticism as a guard prospect and he's a surefire 5 star player.

Not to mention the prototypical NFL LT. Zach Martin may well end up kicking inside to Guard in the NFL, he's done a good job for ND at LT though.

This is such a good post!! People get way too caught up in high school students' measurables because they're thinking about the NFL. Successful COLLEGE players come in all sizes.

Recruiting Week in Review
As big of a visitor to Notre Dame’s Junior Day as Blazevich was, there was one even bigger, literally if not figuratively. At 6-6, 300 pounds, Braden Smith certainly stands out. The Olathe South Senior High School star, visited Notre Dame’s Junior Day also and, like Blazevich, came away very impressed.

“I felt very comfortable there,” he said. “I really liked the people there and the coaches. I liked the campus size also, it’s really small and it’s like a circle, so it’s pretty easy to get around. The football area is very easy to get around, it’s just one building. I like that you don’t have to walk a mile to get to one place or another. It takes like two seconds and there you are.”

In addition to Notre Dame, Smith holds scholarship offers from a veritable who’s who of college football’s elite. Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Michigan, Nebraska, Texas, TCU, Georgia, Miami and Stanford have all stepped to the plate. In addition to his visit to South Bend, Smith also made stops at Michigan and Ohio State as well. Still, there was something about Notre Dame that stood out.

“They (Michigan and Ohio State) were pretty good, but I think Notre Dame is one of the more impressive ones,” he said. “I felt more comfortable there than the other two.”

Smith got to spend time with the three coaches that are most significant to him in terms of his recruitment, Bob Elliott, his recruiter, Harry Hiestand, his position coach and Kelly. He came away with nothing but positive things to say about them.

“I really like Coach Kelly,” he said. “He’s up front and he told me he was not going anywhere, he’s staying there. That’s one factor that really influenced me. I really like him (Coach Hiestand) because he’s honest with everything he says and you want to play for a guy like that. He kind of acts like his offensive linemen are his family; I like that.”

Smith also had the opportunity to spend time with the offensive linemen. He came away impressed with Notre Dame’s big road graders.

“They’re good guys,” he stated. “I like them. They’re easy to get along with and they don’t have egos. They’re all like one big group.”

Smith has finished his visits for a while. Now he plans to concentrate on his track and field season and then get back to his visits in the summer. He will most definitely enter the summer feeling good about Notre Dame.

“They’re pretty high up there; I’d say that after the visit,” he said. “Top five definitely: I don’t really know the others yet, but TCU and Texas A&M definitely.”

It appears as if the Irish have positioned themselves for an official visit in the fall. When asked if that would transpire, Smith simply answered, “probably, yeah.”

These two summaries represent just a sample of the Notre Dame football recruiting information available each week on Irish Sports Daily.

He looked like a guard in the combine drill video posted earlier this year. He was slow in dealing with guys coming at him off the edge.

That's really the biggest difference between a guard and tackle.

The No. 2 ranked offensive tackle has Notre Dame in his top three - plus, why his decision may come sooner than expected and what primary factor will weigh above the rest.

prem article on scout...this is headline
Scout.com: Smith has top three

Did anyone get a update from that article on scout?

Visited us scUM and O$U, in one swing. Liked us a lot more than the BIG counterparts, they seemed like a city unto themselves. Too big for his liking. Named a top three of TCU, TAMU, and ND.

Likes the family feel of those places. Will still make a bunch of visits throughout the south and southeast S. Car, UGA, Bama, Okla., maybe Clemson.

Don't care, he is the white Chance Warmack.

I like him at tackle. I was just responding to another thread on the differences between the two positions.

It certainly reads like we are in very good shape.

Witfong just tweeted that Urban called him today and had a update with it. Anyone have any access to OSU boards?

Don't have an update but I don't think it's coincidence that Urban calls Smith on the day we get a commitment from Mustipher.

Not that I know of, but if it was a positive update, you can bet your left nut that our favorite insect will be here predicting he is all buckeye pretty soon.

Probably just told him when a member of the staff will be visiting him next...

....and to forget the OG v OT debate and that they see him as more of a Percy Harvin type
