Looks like a weak year for TEs....no offense to Koyack cause I could easily see him being a 2nd-4th round guy, but not many big names this year.

Also, hopefully Mike Heuerman follows in big bro's footsteps.

Smythe and Heuerman are going to make a very talented duo next year.

What has he done to deserve that recognition? Not much. But a TE from ND is a safe bet. And that's why ND is TE U!

He did put together a nice series of games where he caught a TD. Considering he was the #2 TE behind a guy who went fairly early in the draft, it's enough for a writer to take a flyer on. If he's wrong, no one will remember; if he's right, he can brag for an entire off season.

If he has a breakout year will that improve? Or is that with a breakout year?

I am so confused.

Can't speak for the author, but I think if he follows his current trajectory, he goes in the middle rounds. If he actually has a breakout year, I could see him go in rounds 2-3. The first round would be tough based off 1 year of production though.

Think he'll have a break out year this year. After being overshadowed by Niklas and Eifert, it's his turn around the TE train. CHOO CHOO!

Rudolph huh...me thinks you mean Eifert.

Anyway. Does Ben have the potential to have a break out season? That is the question.

I think Koyack is going to flourish with Golson and the multiple receiving options. Hopefully the run game will take off too.

I am REALLY excited about this offense.

We saw some nice catches from Ben last year. Hopefully he grows in to a huge weapon for EG to hit.

I loved what he was doing down the stretch, now he just needs to put it all together for the whole season.

The interesting thing to me was that Koyack's season last year was similar to Eifert's 2010 season where he was just scratching the surface of what he could do, giving us a glimpse. Then in 11' he exploded onto the scene. Hopefully Koyack does the same this year.

I really enjoy opening this thread and seeing the Oil City, PA hometown. Just calls to mind a rough kid, ala Ditka. Are there even suburbs in Oil City?

Being a fellow Oil Citian, I can assure you there are no suburbs. But we do have a Pizza Hut...so we got that going for us, which is nice.

Game winning TD, 2 point conversion, and onside recovery all in 2 weeks? Did Mr. Potential just become Mr. Clutch?

I don't know a lot about the national TE picture but I find it hard to believe he is #1 in a world where stats mean everything.

This might be a case where being dubbed "Tight End U" might have helped him. But I got to believe there is a handful of TE's out there with bigger/better stats. Happy for him nonetheless.
