you mean like the usc recruiting weekends??? keith marshall and company when we knew damn well that huge list of people were only hopping on the bandwagon to attend that game

Exactly. I guess I'm torn on how I feel about it. On the one hand, it's a rather cynical way to use the recruiting system. On the other, it gives the staff a crack at kids with whom they might not otherwise have a chance at getting to visit.

Oh well...

I saw 3 games at the ACC my senior year courtesy of teams that were recruiting me that I had no intention of going to. I wasn't gonna pass up good seats.

When it came to my official visits, I took them seriously, especially Miami... I don't remember who they played on Saturday but I wasn't gonna miss The Talking Heads the night before in Millett Hall.

I don't take a '16 recruit coming to ND, on his own dime, for a game this season as anything but a good sign, regardless of the opponent.

I think Malik said he's deciding after his season too, which would be end of novemberish . That's coming up pretty quickly considering he's a 2016 recruit.

Let me preface this by saying I don't follow individual posters much on II, just the II guys and TJ. So I'm not sure of the validity of this statement. However, below is a post from a poster on II that others are giving some credence to.

-ND is definitely leading, at least with Malik himself.. Malik loved the campus and the small school feel as opposed to the glitz and glamour and hoopla that he experienced on his visits to places like USC and UCLA, and really likes what he's hearing from Matt Lafleur. What's interesting considering it's usually the opposite, is that Henry's dad needs a little more convincing because of his concerns about South Bend. The good thing is that it sounds like Matt Lafleur is on it. They are talking about 4 times a week and Malik's dad really likes him. Lafleur is extremely high on Henry.

The poster was also asked a question and he responded he didn't know but would ask. Sort of implying some sort of relationship with somebody close.

It was followed up by TJ who said this.

-This one could be interesting that UM game weekend when Malik visits. You never know in recruiting, of course.

Sloth is a long time reliable poster who has some connections (I think) to Westlake Christian where Henry attends school.

This is going to kill me but my hopes are back up as well. This is my favorite qb in this class and reminds me of Kyler Murray but tall. He has a cannon and has accuracy with it.

Sure. Both are true. Though I don't really think there's anything cynical or "using" the system on the kids' end. They're offered a free trip to a big-time game, being wined (figuratively) and dined by a big-time program. All on the school's dime. Who wouldn't go? And who's it hurting? Schools figure it's worth a shot. And there's no limit on OVs on the schools' end, so it's not like a kid who's taking a joyride is depriving someone else of the chance to go.
Yes, there were rumors of negative recruiting among attendees at that big USC weekend in 2011. And the way that game (and its aftermath) went, I can see the argument to not put so many eggs in one basket like that again. On the other hand, you're selling the program and the experience, not the actual result of the game (which is why no one OVs for Navy in November). So, what the hell.

Malik doesn't go to Westlake Christian. Same town though, so it may be a local connection. As I remember this guys stuff was pretty good.

New #9 overall on rivals first 2016 ranking.

Henry is a very smooth quarterback who can work from the shotgun or under center and feels the rush very well. He is very accurate, throws a nice, catchable ball and leads his receivers well. He can also throw back shoulder passes at this stage very well, a rarity for a young signalcaller. He reminds me a bit of Tajh Boyd at the same stage, with everything appearing effortless from his throwing motion to rolling out and ball fakes. -- Farrell

Henry is probably the smoothest thrower in this class. The ball comes out so easily and he can bomb it down the field with great accuracy. One of the most impressive aspects of Henry's game is that many times his receivers did not create much separation, yet he was able to deliver the ball on a dime. Mainly working from the shotgun, Henry is also good at not locking in on receivers so cornerbacks cannot get a read on where the ball is going.

Henry and Haskins in the same day. Charlie apparently decided that UT will, in fact, use a QB (unless he gets kicked out of course).

Texas would be a major player for Patterson if they offered. Hopes he's not next.

Panic level of IE members if ND is not in Henry's top 4? My guess is 8.

I hope he understands that HE ALONE is Notre Dame's most important recruit in the 2014, 2015 & 2016 classes.

Better than Kyler Murray and Barn Blakenett (already forgotten his name)

I can't think of a more important recruit then we have ever had to land... Am I crazy for saying that? Just based on importance Tuitt, Clausen and Manti are up there. But this one is a must have must need. I am not believing Shea Patterson ends up here or Hawkins

It's (no order)
ND
OSU
UCLA
FSU

per a MB

I was told a couple weeks ago by a very close friend of his father (and neither the friend or the father is a fan of ND) that ND leads.

If it's in "no order," but it's also not alphabetical order, then I have no choice but to infer that Notre Dame is the first team on his mind when he thinks of the top group, and thus ND leads.
