Bettis, Watters and Brooks . . . man those were fun days to be an Irish fan! Dare I say Folston, Bryant and Jamabo could be just as exciting?:rbanana:

1990... backfield... Dorsey Levens, Jerome Bettis, Tony Brooks, Rickey Watters and Rodney Culver... oh and some guy named Rocket who also lined up in the backfield half the time... just a crazy embarrassment of riches we will likely never see again.

Man I loved all those backs. They provided so much confidence on third and short situations. Don't know why but Culver has always been one of my favorite players.

Also, sorta off topic, but Ricky Watters is back at ND taking classes, so he has a student email address, and I sent him an email asking if wanted to party in my house come the fall.

No response yet.

I think as a kid I didn't fully appreciated any of them, other than Rocket, because they all split the carries so much… in the years that followed I was more of a Reggie Brooks and Autry Denson guy as a young lad… Reggie was clearly the guy in 92 and Denson was the guy for what seemed like a decade running… Looking back as an adult though, geez there was a ton of talent in that backfield.

People forget that Coach Holtz moved Ricky Watters out to wideout for a year because of the talent at RB, namely, Tony Brooks...who was an absolute beast.

He might be more likely to come if you tell him party at your house immediately after the naked lap. Oh wait, come to think of it, it might make him less likely to come. I guess it's a "crap shoot". Which brings up another concern, you might want to make sure you eat plenty of fiber leading up to the naked lap.

What I read: everyone go party at Jimmymac's place before game day to meet Ricky Watters.

My mom was pissed because I ended up on the five-year plan in college. Back in the day, I would have come to your party without a doubt ... which maybe explains the five-year plan.

Loy has an interview with Jamabo up but its nothing new. The only thing of note is that he stated he wouldn't be surprised if Soso moved up his timeline or was an ND commit prior to his Michigan OV.

Per TV still feeling good about Jamabo to be Irish.

UT and OU have decreased their interest
Mixed bag of info on if he will decide before or after OVs
His family is very much on board with Notre Dame

Watching clips of him, Brossette, and Harris at The Opening, clearly my favorite back that we are in it for.

I've been waiting for the longest time for ND to have a two-sport athlete in football and basketball. Anyone remember the last person to do it at ND? Probably before my lifetime or memory span.

I heard that Donald Royal could have played tight end, and Tony Rice could definitely play some basketball, but that is a good question, I can't remember the last one either.

The Townsend brothers, in the early seventies, played both basketball and football. Before the second World War, Ed Moose Krause(athletic director) was All American at tackle, and basketball center for the Irish. With a Heisman trophy and ten years in the NBA to his credit, Charlie Ward stands alone as the epitome of a dual sport athlete.
