I applaud the judge in this case. This is a very tough sentence. Jail, yes jail. Wake up NOW or get ready for the state pen. Message: Jayru just because you are a football star, you can not assault and hurt and potentially very seriously hurt an innocent person. You are very, very lucky the person you attacked did not get hurt more seriously. WAKE UP! Or be a total loser.

I don't like to see any of our youth go down the wrong path and I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not sure this is going to change him given what has been written about him so far.

The question is do the consequences fit the offense.

Then the next question is does this young man have the ability to change.

Then does he have the motivation to change.

I would like to see juvenile offenders and first time drug offenders offered more flexibility like this when warranted.

Its not warranted though. I hate dealing with juveniles, especially the 16 and 17 year olds, because they know the justice system is weak. This kid got what he deserved, he is old enough to be held accountable for his actions. I applaud the judge. I know the judges in my jurisdiction would not have done squat.

Honestly hope this kid ends up somewhere small time and out of the light. NAIA or something similar. Coaches can be more "Personal" and hands on, tell you what you need to hear and smack the shit out of you (figuratively) when necessary. Guy can graduate college and get a degree... possibly a wake up call, and be something in life.

In 4 years he wakes up to grab his degree and is thankful...

Wayne State or any GLIAC school will probably take him when all is said and done. Kid probably needs to get as far away from the D though as possible for his own good it seems :/

My guess is he hasn't had that MSU offer for awhile. Kid is clearly not worth the headache. I know he's put up really good stats and won titles but he also happens to play on the most loaded team in the state of Michigan the last few years. Cass Tech has been pumping out BCS and MAC talent like clockwork.

Seems like the kid has a ton of "Uncles"

Won't end good for him down the road no doubt

This kid..

Quarterback Jayru Campbell (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) was released from jail on Friday, but was arrested hours after his release for allegedly hitting his girlfriend, according to a news report from ClickOnDetroit.com (channel 4 TV).

Campbell was in jail previously serving a sentence for body slamming a school security guard. The report states that is being held at the Detroit Juvenile Detention Facility and that no charges have been formally announced.

Campbell was once considered one of the rising quarterback prospects in the country for the 2015 cycle.

With the way things are trending in the NFL, sounds like this kid is bound to be a star.

What in the hell...I'd be surprised if this kid lands a scholarship somewhere, let alone a D1 school.
