I'm not sure what you mean by this. Hinton has a couple dozen deep throws and is almost always hitting the receiver in stride. I agree with what you're saying about his arm not being big but I don't understand what you mean about the passes getting picked off.

I actually think people have been rather measured in their evaluations/expectations. Stidham is basically a 5:s: guy. Do we have a legit shot at him? No. Francois, IMO, is a great DT prospect. Do we have a legit shot at him? Unlikely.

I haven't seen one person say they prefer Waller to Barnett despite Waller's lofty rankings.

With Hinton, it's simply a case of realizing that he has a 15 minute highlight video for a reason when most kids have a 2-5 minute video. He's consistently making great plays whereas others have glimpses of brilliance. All of his measurables (arm, height, build, etc.) are less than ideal for a QB but if what you're looking for is a bridge player to get to '16 because the great prospects like Brady White, etc. are off the board then I think this is your guy.

This. Get a decent athlete with a strong arm in this class and focus on '16. BB put us behind in this QB class. IMO don't waste too much time on QB for the '15 class. Hinton fits those characteristics.

maybe i am watching different film but i see a guy with a strong arm that is easily throwing 40+ yards in the air on a dime to his wr's. he has so many deep balls in his highlights because his wr's are getting so wide open but also when the coverage is better, he is placing that ball where ONLY his wr's can get the ball and they made great over the shoulder catches...this kid's accuracy is UNREAL and he def goes through his progressions while keeping his eyes downfield the whole time....even on a few crossing routes he throws darts...i see NOTHING that would indicate he doesn't have a cannon of arm...and looks to have similar arm strength to that of Golson's high school film...VERY HIGH on him! also for what its worth, his offense plays in a spread so his comfort level w/ how our offense runs should be an easier transition than that of Malik or Hendrix in previous years running more of an option, run heavy offense...just my .02

Are we recruiting him at all?

Sort of off topic, you think anybody on the ND staff reads this site?

I really don't think that they would bother themselves with a fan site. Unless they were tipped off that somebody is posting inside information that they should not be.

The Irish already have a couple offers out to Midwestern quarterbacks like Jack Beneventi and Jayru Campbell, but are also looking at others, including North Carolina’s Kendall Hinton.
The 6-foot, 185-pounder from Southern High School in Durham already holds an offer from Duke and is receiving strong interest from others. Notre Dame assistant Mike Elston has already made a stop by Southern to check on Hindall and even compared his physical ability to Everett Golson.
“They came in and showed some interest,” Southern head coach Adrian Jones said.
“They said they like what he does and he kind of reminds them of the quarterback that’s from South Carolina. I guess he resembles him a little bit, so they were just touching base with him and want to get him down to camp to evaluate him in person.”
At this point, Hinton is planning on getting to South Bend for camp in the middle of June.
“We’re going to try to take a visit and go down there and camp,” his coach said. “He’s got a couple other places that he’s going to, so we’re just trying to work that into our schedule.
“We’re trying to work out a plan where he can get down there the day before and then works out the next day. We’ll probably hit one on the way back.”
The offer from Duke is a big one these days with David Cutcliffe as head coach.
“It definitely is,” Jones said. “It says a lot about him. They really like him a lot. Like I told him, Cutcliffe has a great résumé with quarterbacks. You can’t get any better than that.”
Hinton was named All-Area First team as a sophomore after throwing for 2,700 yards and 28 touchdowns with another 300 yards rushing in 2012.
He has a great arm,” said Jones. “He’s smart. He’s a lot better of a pocket passer than people think. He’s very athletic and he can use his legs, but he’s just as good in the pocket as he is on the run.
“I think that’s a great attribute because a lot of times you have quarterbacks who are just athletes who use their legs, but Kendall is a true pocket passer who can spin the ball very well.”
Jones said Hinton is right about 6 feet, but is hoping he hits a growth spurt.
“He wears a size 13 shoe and his dad’s 6-5, so I think we’re going to get some more out of him,” the coach said.
Hinton is also a great young man, according to his coach.
He’s a 4.0 student,” said Jones. “He’s great in the classroom. He’s not much of a talker as far as on the field, but he leads by example with everything he does.”
He’s receiving strong interest from the ACC and SEC.
“North Carolina State is showing some interest, Clemson, of course Duke, and UNC are some area ones,” Jones said. “Schools like Vanderbilt and Tennessee are showing interest as well.
“He’s enjoying the recruiting process. Schools are coming in and showing interest and he’s trying to make sure he hits the road and stays in contact with those schools.”

Is the yellow arrow in the highlight film necessary? Lol.

Kid has great film. I agree with Lax's point above in that most kid's have short highlight films, while his is really long and stocked with great throws. I'm on board.

I like the sound of all of this. Wouldn't be the worst consolation prize if Walker doesn't pan out.

i was asked for his scouting breakdown from espn...i was asked by pham not to post them in full as i have been...so quick breakdown

-very decisive in his reads
-Can be erratic at times, but shows flashes of being a pinpoint guy
-His feet are not always underneath him. Has a bit of a street ball style that can lend to him spray the ball around unnecessarily. When his feet are set and balanced he can become very consistent as an accurate thrower.
-he excels is in the short and intermediate passing game. Is really good throwing on time and to a spot on seam routes, deep crossing routes and skinny posts.
-It takes everything he has to throw the deep ball.

basically there seems to be a split on what people see....inconsistent seemed to be the word thrown out a lot in regards to his eval...needs to get the footwork down

Footwork can be easily remedied, but the question about arm strength really concerns me. I would hate the see the field cut short by our QB should this kid ever see the field in meaningful time.

You wouldn't know that from his video. He makes it look very easy.

Ok so I don't see an elite arm, but I see a better than average arm. He is also very elusive in the open field. If Kelly won 8-9 games with Reese he can win at least 10 with this mid

He's going to tear us apart when we play Wake in the next few years.

So the reaction if we get Waller is oh no he's gonna get an actionable offer to Bama and decommit, but the reaction to this is he gone... If we come knocking Wake Forest may be concerned.

Sorry. I was just bringing an option to light with Barnett decommitting.

I wasn't insulting or blaming. I was just saying, Hinton wasn't a highly talked about guy from the services so he would have never been talked about here if u bring him up.

its a mark of the depth of this year's QB class that a middling program like WF is getting a talent like Hinton.

It's also worth noting that Hinton was mentioned on ISD for his contact with ND well before he was mentioned in that article on TP's site that was linked here. He then fell by the wayside because we landed Barnett so no one gave two shits about QB recruiting until this month.

I think the other Kendall (Austin Kendall) from NC is a better overall QB even though he is a 2016 recruit. Still, congrats to Hinton on his commitment.
