This is another kid that will be exciting for some other school to land!

We got a few DTs last year, doesn't ND ussually take a few years off between DTs?

Haha, that was a good one. In all seriousness we are in a good position at DT going forward. Ironman made a good point the other day that we have the luxury to bring in a couple of project players because they'll have time to develop.

Personally, I think you start with the assumption that every class is 22 players and every position gets a kid for that year. 5th years, medicals, transfers, and other considerations can change things a little, but that is the idea. The goal is STABILITY and depth.

Long story short, I'd authomatically take 2 DTs every year as a matter of course-- if we are playing the 4-3. (That includes super-sized 3-4 DE types who provide a little flexibility between DT and SDE).

My high school in Mississauga, On (just outside of Toronto) played CFL rules (12 men). There is a rep league in Ontario (Ontario Varsity Football League) that plays 11 men. All of the good players in my high school played in the OVFL.

Looking at his tape, I could see him evolve into a linebacker. He has really good speed and incredible frame. Get him leaner, and he could be a fierce run stopper in the middle.

There's some really good football being played in Canada, even though it's sporadic between 11 and 12-man across the country. There were four Canadians selected in this year's NFL draft and they annually send 5-10 guys division 1 every year. We will actually see one of the best Canadian players in week 1 with Christian Covington (DT) at Rice. He's projected to be a 1st-2nd rounder next spring.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the school Neville attends. It's called Canada Prep Football Academy. Think Eastern Christian Academy in Delaware (David Sills' school). It was set up because Canadian kids weren't getting the exposure they needed to earn scholarships in the U.S. without leaving Canada. Almost all of the best Canadian HS kids come to the states for school, whether that's a New England prep school (Tevaun Smith, Kent Prep, Univ. of Iowa), schools like Eastern Christian Academy (Eli Ankou, UCLA) or IMG Academy (Michael O'Connor, Penn State). There's a market for it in Canada (i.e. talented Canadian kids looking for D1 exposure/offers) and Canada Football Prep Academy seems to be doing a good job recruiting kids to attend their school.

I looked at their website and they list the classes offered. My immediate concern would be Neville fulfilling the language requirement for ND, but I'm sure the coaches have a handle on that.

Eddie Vanderdoes is not impressed.

He is very mobile for a big guy but he is in no way a BCS level LB. The most recent tape out there of him is from the RCS camp in Detroit. He is legitimately around 300lbs and moves great for that weight but not remotely close to a BCS level LB.

I thought that the United States was the only country that didnt speak at least two languages.

what if you were fluent in a foreign language but never studied it formally in HS? Could you sit an entrance exam at ND and qualify?

Wiltfong or Loy was under the impression that MSU might be the team to beat. So either MSU's 247 reporter is not all there or this is a very good development.

I have no sources but I would be SHOCKED if that would not be enough.

First of all, since they are internal rules, any could technically be broken. But my guess is that the faculty worked with the Admissions office to hammer out a list of minimum non-negotiables for the football team that everyone can live with: basically, who can we let in and still feel like we are living up to the University's core values.

Since the football program has so much clout and money, I am sure that it is painful for Admissions to fight them. Admissions probably wants the rules to be as bright line, black and white as they can possibly be. Where there is a non-sketchy gray area--like you are suggesting--I bet the Administration would side with the football staff 99% of the time, and Admissions does not want that fight for no reason.

Long story short, in order to consistently say "no" to kids without any language classes (despite no NCAA rule), you have to assume they would say "yes" to a kid who is bilingual--otherwise their rule would seem totally arbitrary.

I was granted the equivalent of AP french when I went to prep school. I'm sure they do it when kids can speak another language fluently.
