yeah he mentions obligation and honesty then says maybe in the same fucking breathe. what a tool bag.

Not defending Hoke personally, but I do think prefer his BS to Urban's BS.

I think the BBall coaches do it right. You STOP recruiting the kid once he committs. I am not sure if there is an official rule to that effect in BBall. If not, it proves that grown men can still enforce a "gentlemen's" rule. (NOTE: I don't think anyone should be stupid enough to go this direction, until the new regime is in place.)

In any event, it would be pretty easy for the NCAA to make a rule that says there can be no contact with a kid once he committs. For example:

1) When a kid commits to a school, the school sends the kid an email that asks if he wants to be put on the school's NCAA "committment" list. The kid's guardian, high school coach, and the NCAA must be cc'd. If the kid agrees, he must respond to the school and the NCAA. If he says, "yes," he is put the list.

2) Once the kid is on the list, no other coach can contact him from another school (with the exception of saying, "Thank you for expresing interest in _________. It appears that you are committed to another D1 institution (see NCAA list of commitments). ________ is not allowed to contact you while you are committed to ___________. If you wish to pursue a scholarship to our football program, you must decommit first.").

3) Once committed, the contact limits for the commitment school are relaxed substanitally.

4) If a kid is contacted by another school, he or his school can report and its considered a violation (texts, FB stuff, emails, messages are easy to track if the kid wants to). If he decides not to report OH WELL...

5) If the kid decommits, he is back on the market.

6) If the school wants to pull his scholarship offer, it has to send the same kind of email, cc'ing everyone.

Michigan fans are taking this new offer as a bad sign as it relates to Crawford.

Always think of Matt Foley living in a van down by the river when I see/hear him.

Seems like a hell of a contingency plan. Dude's got some serious offers.

On Crawford, I kind of love his offensive highlights. But if we're already losing interest in Malik Lovette and the TX player is still visiting for II, I'd say we're set at slot, so IDK.

Isn't Riggs 5'9" as a 5th year senior? He could play CB for BVG. AM I missing something else other than the staff is fighting over which side of the ball he plays?

Longo can definitely bulk him up if necessary.

i wouldn't be so sure that IF he commits and it doesn't work out at DB that he wouldn't be given a shot at RB...he has good hands, good vision and speed...plus he currently plays this position too...

Hmmm, officially decommits today. It's almost like something must have happened over the weekend that prompted this.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>. <a href="https://twitter.com/SamWebb77">@SamWebb77</a> just said on the <a href="https://twitter.com/Hugeshow">@Hugeshow</a> that Shaun Crawford is no longer a commitment, but <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Michigan&src=hash">#Michigan</a> will continue to recruit him.</p>— nezz21〽 (@nezzy21) <a href="https://twitter.com/nezzy21/statuses/468476400848994304">May 19, 2014</a></blockquote>

Nevermind. It looks like it's just semantics. The recruiting guy that covers Michigan that is on the show is saying based upon the Hoke policy, it would mean that he is not viewed as a commit .. etc etc.

I don't believe that Crawford himself is saying that he has officially decommitted.

Sampson caught up with his dad. Basically michigan is moving on and it sounds like Crawford family is moving on. They know they have offered other corners. Will visit OSU. His dad also said "Shaun knows what he is gonna do"

For the Diaco haters, Mr. Crawford gave you some ammunition to work with in Sampson's update.

Sampson did specifically ask the question so this wasn't random. But the question was the difference between this visit and the first visit. Cooks was very impressive. Total 180 in conversation. Down to earth and approachable. No arrogance, it was more a level conversation. The first visit he thought to himself, why are we even here. What's the purpose of them asking us to come down here. Major change yesterday.

-Thats pretty powerful stuff to get from a recruits father.

Man. To think he still supposedly liked ND more after a weird visit shows some real interest in Notre Dame the university, not football team. Which are the kind of kids that excel, IMO.

As to the Crawford/Riggs both being 5'9". I think the only real difference is one is battle tested and proven. Crawford should get his chance.

I think thats a good point. How many top flight 5'9 CB's are there? Not many. Riggs is an exception not rule and maybe Crawford is too but thats to be determined. Thats why I like the staff explaining this to Shaun and Shaun understanding it. I take those as positive conversations without the sales pitch.

per Bucknuts

So what’s the vibe at the WHAC on this evolving recruitment? A source very close to the staff shared the following with us.

“[Crawford] is not going to Michigan,” the source said. “Wait. I take that back. An extension for [Brady] Hoke changes everything. Nobody expects that though. Crawford does not want to get caught in a coaching change. [Michigan has] run out of ways to reassure him. The best thing about that is the negative recruiting is not coming from our staff. Before you ask, that is all I know. I will not say it is coming from Notre Dame. I don't know where it is coming from.

“But I can tell you for a fact when it comes to

In the NFL, almost all top paid CBs are 5'11"+... there has been a shift in philosophy over the years because of how much taller the #1 WRs in the NFL have progressively gotten. However, the case can be made that in the college game small CBs are just as valuable (if not better due to the prevalence of spread offenses).

In the NFL, Brandon Flowers is 5'9". Webb is 5'10". Brent Grimes is 5'10". Cortland Finnegan is 5'10". Tim Jennings is 5'8". Alterraun Verner is 5'10". Those are the only top paid guys that are shorter than 5'11" I could find... but that's 30% of the top 20 guys. So it's far from a total rarity.

IMO, with Crawford being anywhere between 5'9" and 5'10" (and playing almost entirely at safety) it's almost impossible to say where he exactly fits. But I don't think there's much of question that we have enough "big" guys at corner and need to add some more quick "cover" guys. The fact that Crawford is an ATH that could play on either side of the ball is another big plus. Either way we have to make sure this doesn't happen in the future:

GB, is that end of post or was there more?

Was OSU trying to imply it's us or they legitimately don't know?

“But I can tell you for a fact when it comes to Crawford the [Ohio State] staff is more concerned about Notre Dame than Michigan.”

That’s a shame. Or not.

This is so much more simple than any of these OSU or Michigan or whoever "sources" are making it sound. He always like ND better even after his first "crappy" visit. Since February really, really good sources at his high school have said he was going to ND.

Everything else right now just seems to be noise. I'm not 100% sure he ends up at ND, but it just seems funny to me that so many people see a need to invent some exotic reason behind the scenes.

Is saying, "Hey, kid, look. It's Michigan." considered negative recruiting?

I mean, if someone said it was, I'd probably be inclined to agree.

I mean- I'm turned off.

Big time.

Like envisioning weird looking people in the stands salivating. Then an after game walmart rush with people fighting over socks...

Weird.

How old is this kid? 16 -17? He can still grow 1 to 3 more inches. Personally, I stopped growing between 18 and 19 years old...

My brother is his Offensive Coordinator and I've watch most of his games either in person or video. The kid is explosive. He is a track star as well. I think he would be a good offensive player honestly but even though he is smaller he plays big and isn't afraid to tackle. He has to mature a little but the kid is legit.

I assume that's his HS team?
