If we AREN'T out, I'd expect us to be a serious player. But all indications were/are USC is going to block us.

NICE. I think I read today that if a player asks for permission to contact another school, the original school has 7 days to respond. If it fails to respond, the request is deemed granted. Must be what happened here.

Not to be a wet blanket, but... I'm gonna be a wet blanket.

Should Notre Dame get in contact with a USC tranferee when ND knows that USC wanted to block them from transferring to ND? It would just seem petty to go through with this and then ND turns around and blocks contact on some kid wanting to transfer out of ND.

Transfers is a goes-around, comes-around sort of game. If USC lets him go where ever, swell. But if he winds up coming here through a technicality, well, karma has a way of biting you in the ass eventually.

“Right now they [Notre Dame] are a team I can’t talk to,” said Isaac, a former five-star recruit who rushed for 236 yards and two touchdowns on 40 carries as a freshman. “That might change. (USC) might have missed the deadline to give restrictions. If they did I would consider it. … I definitely don’t want it to be a dragged-out process. I want to figure out where I’m going to be next year and get to work.”

Isaac said his mother’s phone was “blowing up” Wednesday while he traveled home from California, and he personally heard from Michigan and Illinois, among others, Thursday.

The Wolverines, who were in the picture originally, and the Illini fit his criteria.

“I wouldn’t say I have a top three, but I’m looking at Big Ten schools that are close to where I live,” Isaac said.

So confirmed RE: ND. Lets hope they fucked up and missed the deadline.

Nobody should ever be blocked from going to whichever school they feel like going to. That's always been a stupid rule.

If they didn't respond in time, then that's on them and not ND. Besides if they were that concerned about where he can transfer, then I would have thought they would make sure they took care of the restrictions within the normal time frame. We'll be one of his final three along with scUM and probably Illinois.

It already bit us in the ass (see Vanderdoesn't).

It's our turn. Come on down, Ty!

Am I understanding this correctly: some are worried about possibly adding Ty because of a technicality?

From ISD Intel:
From the start, we’ve known the Illinois running back had some serious interest in transferring to Notre Dame - serious, serious interest. That interest is still there and Notre Dame will absolutely be among the schools he considers. Some close to the situation are completely convinced he’ll end up in South Bend while others aren’t ready to go that far yet.

Multiple Big Ten programs are already working on Isaac and there does seem to be some debate as to whether Notre Dame is a school he’s cleared to go to or not. We’ve been told Isaac’s camp believes the Trojans missed a deadline that would have limited his options to around 20 schools (Notre Dame likely not among them), but we’re also hearing USC may dispute that. It’s not exactly clear when that situation will be resolved and lawyers may be needed before it is.

That last sentence concerns me considering Isaac has said he wants to decided quickly and I guarantee if lawyers are involved this thing won't be decided quickly.

The lawyers part might be a power play on Isaac's side to get USC to just let him go so they don't have to deal with the negative publicity of fighting against their athletes.

If Notre Dame feels it is just, fair, and reasonable to prevent a current player from transferring to a program that is an annual opponent, then I think it would violate the spirit of the rule to take a kid who would be blocked from South Bend for the same exact reasons - but for some alleged procedural failure.

I agree to an extent.

I'm leaning towards the "nice guys finish last" mantra on this one though. I hope this kid ends up at ND.
