Like it or not, it is an ugly hypocrisy that pervades much of the national discussion on race. The hypocrisy leads to unreasoned and impractical national "discussions" on race, at a detriment to us all. This hypocrisy only persists because too few confront it.

But, by all means, get off on your nonsensical, juvenile insults.

You said "unsurprisingly"? You just contributed to your own hypocrisy.

And no, I don't get off on insulting you. Pointing out the logical fallacies of a troll gets me harder than a diamond though.

Edit: Ahhhh "sarcasm". The excuse of every indefensible post on the Internet.

Ugh, you still don't get it. Dshans seemed to.

The hypocrisy at issue isn't tarring a group based on the actions of an individual.

The hypocrisy is the loud proclamation of the racism and prejudice on the right but silence when it is on the left.

No… no one knew or cared about what party he voted for until you brought it up. No one would have known or cared if he voted republican either. The guy isn't a political figure at all. Shit, most people probably didn't know who he was until today, none the less which way he voted. You made a topic about a rich racist into some bizarre angle on politics.

Just you trolling as usual.

All too true. How did that errant statement of truth get in there?

I'm fucking old. I have lived through a lot of "this" shit and know a bit about how to "do" sarcasm. That's how.

Perhaps you haven't the perspective or the chops to adequately assess and comment with accuracy, aplomb and sarcastic grace.

But who am I to judge?

Oh, wait ... I'm just me.

Goddammit.

So we should all sit silently and allow you to make up lies and bullshit without protesting, even though we know it's wrong, to help correct your perceived injustice? Are you sure that's the horse you want to hitch your cart to?

Yeah I'm with you on this one. He might be a dick, but is that violating a rule? And how exactly can you punish someone for a private conversation? You can damage his reputation but that's pretty much it.

If I cared one iota about the NBA, this is where I would fall. If players don't like it, ask for a trade. If fans don't like it, go watch the Lakers (or maybe real basketball?).

I stand with you on this.

Other issues I won't comment upon. We shall see.

Apparently I sent you a "Rep" a while ago so am prevented by "The Man" from doing so again just now. I want my nebulous "points" to "count" so I dropped the whole unlimited reps thingie.

It can be a farging pain in the arse to play by the rules. This post will have to do in lieu of a shiny green button.

My view - if players quit on Sterling he is done. First hurdle for Sterling - do his players decide he is a piece of shit and needs to go. If they do - they quit on him and he is done. If he passes this huge hurdle then legal niceties come into play. What moron would attack Magic Johnson? Motherhood, Apple Pie and Magic Johnson.

If you don't understand why this is news you're just being ignorant. Being an NBA owner comes with a certain amount of responsibility. Him being heard saying he doesn't want black people at the games is PR nightmare for the league. The fact that he pays players millions doesn't mean anything and doesn't give you a pass to be a racist idiot. He should be suspended at the very least.

Suspended from what? It's not like he coaches or plays. He's an owner. You're going to suspend him from ownership? You're going to take real property away from him, for some racist comments? If that's ok, then Jesse Jackson shouldn't even own a pencil!

Who gives a shit what party he votes with. He is an ignorant bigot and nobody is or was defending him. Everyone agrees regardless of political view that he is a fool.

The only similar case that I know of is Marge Schott the owner of the Reds being suspended from ownership duties. How the NBA would exactly work it is up in the air but it would probably contain a ban on attending games, practices, etc.

I still think it is most likely that he gets a really heavy fine (10-20 million) and nothing else.

While he is still a scumbag, after listening to the tape, I really feel like this chick was setting him up.

Sounds like she is a gold-digging whore herself. I wouldn't be surprised if she really did embezzle from him as he suggested.

Either way, every part of this story makes me want to take a shower. Terrible people all around.

Missed that part. Maybe I don't feel so sorry for her...

Again… not saying that he isn't a racist piece of shit… but there is more to the story for sure.

The woman you hear talking to Donald Sterling during a taped conversation in which he makes racist remarks will NOT cooperate with the NBA Commissioner's investigation ... and we've learned her refusal has nothing to do with the tape.

A rep from the law office representing V. Stiviano tells TMZ ... they heard NBA Commissioner Adam Silver state his intention to interview Stiviano, but that's not going to happen right now. We're told her lawyer, Mac Nehoray, will not allow her to answer questions about pending litigation against his client filed by Sterling's estranged wife.
Shelly Sterling claims in her lawsuit Stiviano embezzled $1.8 million by scheming to get as much as she could from an old man -- Donald Sterling. Stiviano claims everything she got was a gift.

Baited or not, he said all of those things.

While it hasn't been confirmed as him, I believe that he undoubtably said these things and that it was in context correctly… but that doesn't mean that he wasn't baited by an embezzling, gold digging whore.

Again… ugly situation all around. But he isn't the only monster here.

I find racism deplorable, but one guy who acts like a total dick and makes racist comments in private to his (ex)girlfriend is not going to rile me up one bit. It actually surprises me less that he happens to be a person of relative power/authority. The guy was irrelevant to me before, and he is irrelevant to me now. I get the logic behind the backlash and think a response makes sense, but excessive emotion seems misplaced. Unfortunately, there are numerous incidents more pressing on the topic of racism alone and its lingering effects on society than this TMZ run-of-the-mill. This just feels like another diversion of the yahoo.com ilk.

PS. My Spurs lost... damn.

How does racism end without shaming those who perpetuate it?

The guy was irrelevant to me before, and he is irrelevant to me now.

One could say the same thing about racist southerners back in the day if you're living well somewhere else.

I get the logic behind the backlash and think a response makes sense, but excessive emotion seems misplaced.

Excessive emotions is said shaming. It hasn't gone far enough yet (from what I've seen), people should refuse to buy tickets and players should demand trades until this piece of shit sells the team. And I would hope that buyers low-ball him on the price too.

Unfortunately, there are numerous incidents more pressing on the topic of racism alone and its lingering effects on society

That is probably true, but where is this limit from empathy and sympathy coming from?

There's something about me that wishes the "roles" had been reversed.

Simply put, I would rather that the black guy had a sign that read "I brought a White guy 2 the game!" and the white guy the obvious reverse: "I'm White."

"... the nearer your destination the more you're slip slidin' away."

Thank you, Paul Simon. That simple turning of a phase applies in oh so many ways.
