I couldn't get into Agents of SHIELD after the first two episodes. Should I retry?
If you like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's a worthy companion piece. Things pick up mid-season and the last two episodes especially have been VERY good.

I haven't spoken to a ton of non-readers, but my wife is one and she knew before it even happened. She said something along the lines of "the old lady is going to kill Joffrey" right after she made her "what kind of man kills someone on their wedding?" comment. I did a quick Google just now and this is being described as a "mystery" in the popular press. Maybe I give show viewers too much credit re: their intelligence.

Maybe I misused the term "powerful." When I read Reek 1, I was legitimately disturbed for awhile. I thought the writing was some of the most psychologically sick shit I've ever read.

Understand that a lot of viewers don't really read, let alone great stories like these.

People who've read the Game of Thrones books really want you to know they've read the Game of Thrones books.

LOL

"They don't say that in the books..."

"That's not how it happens in the books."

"I wonder how they're going to handle this based on what's in the books."

^Me watching GOT.

My wife likes the show... I've read the books, she hasn't, I pretty much keep my mouth shut. It's funny because she'll ask me for spoilers and i give her off the wall BS just to see her reaction...

"Well if you must know, Gendry turns out to be the Lord of Light and bascially destroys everyone except Cersei... whom he loves... but they are both defeated by Davos, who rules over the entire kingdom."

The best part is I've cried wolf on it so much that i can drop real turns like the whole Tyrion/Sansa thing and she just rolls he eyes like it's another off the wall thing...

hehe

Yeah my default response is "watch the show" because my wife begs for spoilers but then rages at me if I reveal them. Poor thing, she's all-in for Jon Snow and Ygritte.

Wait... wife and I don't have HBO so we are content being a season behind on Blu Ray... she hasn't died yet in the show?? We are like two eps from Red Wedding and it seemed like the show was moving towards that pretty quick. I just kind of assumed she'd be axed by the end of the season.

She's tooling around south of The Wall with Tormund Giantsbane.

You need to find a friendly person to get an HBOgo login from.

How where might you be able to find someone like that? Hmm

Speaking of differences in the book and the show, I thought the switch from Ilyn Payne to Bronn as Jaime's new practice buddy was interesting.

Makes me wonder if this means that Bronn is being kept in the spotlight because his "lordship" will actually be a big storyline, not just a cause for Cersei to be paranoid about.

But as Title is guessing, perhaps it's to keep Bronn in the spotlight so that it's a bigger deal if he's the one that testifies against Tyrion. And that might make the most sense, because he refuses to fight on Tyrion's behalf for a second time when Tyrion is on trial in the books.

Here's an article that breaks down the poisoning at the wedding scene by scene. I thought I would post it here since others are still guessing on the other thread. It's pretty obvious for show viewers once it's pointed out.

The Big Thing You Might've Missed In Last Night's Game of Thrones

Anyone care to summarize? Blocked on the work machine.

Edit: My wife pointed something out that I missed but she mentioned that the pie was full of dead birds and/or bird shit. Is this a hint that we might ALL be wrong and this wasn't a poisoning at all, or did GRRM just throw that in there as "another possibility" for show viewers to speculate on?

I don't think it was full of dead birds or bird shit. I think it was just one dead bird from where Joffrey used his sword to cut the pie.

It points out how there are 7 gems on the necklace that Sir Dontos gives Sansa. When Olenna comes over to comfort Sansa at Joffrey's wedding, she touches her hair/upper part of her shoulder and seems to take something in her hand. They then show a different angle and the necklace then has 6 gems. Assuming that this is some sort of crystallized version of "the strangler", it isn't that hard to put two and two together at that point. Plus, they show Olenna in the background focused as Tyrion grabs the cup that Joffrey then drinks. Also shows how much they focused on Olenna in random shots in the episode (i.e the wedding itself)

Hm, I was watching that necklace intently and I completely missed it. I'll have to rewatch.

My wife thinks it was either Margaery or Oberyn so it's not as obvious to some.

Random question---how much would you pay to guarantee that Winds of Winter would come out following the end of this season (price of book included in your payment)? I think I'd fork up $150.

I'd go at least that much. Maybe a little more.

I'm loving it. The speculation among my friends and online is great. My show-only friend I watched the episode with guessed Tyrells right away. I thought it was more obvious than that. Of course, I remember being shocked when it happened and didn't know who did it until Littlefinger said it was him and Olenna.

Alfie Allen is the best actor on this show IMO. Ever since Theon took Winterfell, Allen has been killing it. He's got Reek down perfectly.

Here's an interesting theory regarding "Cleganebowl" (and lots of other stuff). It ties together a bunch of prophecies for which I hadn't yet seen a coherent framework.

That's pretty well done and I don't see any obvious problems with it other than Baelish's plan for Sansa to declare her identity in front of the Vale so the knights take up arms for her cause. Of course, the wedding might be a big enough event to take evryone important to Harrenhall.

Mind blowing. I'm not sure I buy all of it, but I'm buying Brienne + Jaime vs. Gregor.
