I don't think this will stick. I just don't see any fit culturally. A Northeastern Catholic school kid going to Alabama? Can't remember the last time that happened. Currently only 1 Jersey boy on Bama's roster. Though considering his list, I'm very disappointed. Coming from a New Jersey catholic school, you'd think he'd pick more academically challenging schools. That's a damn shame.
I don't know what the case is with MF, but some parents send their kids to Catholic high schools (that have highly competitive sports programs), such as those in NJ, with the #1 reason being athletics. I'm sure the fact that the education that their sons will receive is appealing, especially if the local public school is mediocre. Better coaching, more exposure, playing against better competition. Just look at Don Bosco Prep. You don't honestly believe that every kid from DBP cared more about academics then athletics, do you? Not every football player from DBP, St. Peter's, SJR, Camden Catholic, and Paramus Catholic goes to Northwestern, Duke, Stanford, ND, etc.
Obviously Alabama isn't as good of a school as the ND's, Stanford's and Duke's of the world, but it's not terrible. It's a quality school with some good programs. I can only speak to my experience, but I have friends who have been out of school for 3 years, with degrees from NESCAC and Ivy League schools, and I have a better job just 1 year removed from Alabama. A lot of my friends that I graduated with have very good jobs, too. If you put in the work at any school, you can be successful.
