Kid looks bigger than Josh Barajas, considering we have seen them both next to Jaylon Smith now!

Not breaking news but Wiltfong changed his CB back to ND today.

I want him. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, his competition in HS is as good as it gets.

Me too. It's funny to me that people wouldn't want one of the top ILB recruits in the country, one that is from Indiana and played good competition, just because of him being underweight.

Meanwhile... we'll slobber about the "ceiling" of every 3 star kid that has good size.

I like this kid's tape too. He plays fast and aggressive. Would love to see him playing with Jaylon.

Not sure if Bilal will be developed enough by his sophomore year to play with Jaylon. Actually I'd bet against that. However, I really like his game.

IDK if they play the same position or not, but personally, I'd take this kid over Nick Conner all day. Bilal is way more athletic, and if he puts on 20 LBs, which is likely, he could be a serious player. I see Conner as another Dan Fox, and even though he's rated 91/92 I believe, I would be fine if we passed on him.

IMO, the reason Conner hasn't received an offer yet is his lack of versatility. In the 4-3 he's a MLB only, that lack of flexibility versus guys like Bilal is what I believe is turning off the staff for right now. I think Bilal and Barajas both have considerably more versatility. In time Conner will probably be a good Mlb but I'm not sure that's what we're looking for right now.

are you worried about him being developed physically or mentally.

i'll be honest imo physical development helps, but it is trumped by mental development in my book. the way this guy flies around i want him on the field, especially with the number of spread offenses we see nowadays.

i really do believe you can play mike LB in the college game at 225-235 pounds. call me crazy, but i think it can be done

I'm not worried about anything, I just don't see him being developed enough in both areas. Especially more so than other players in front of him while Jaylon is here. Now Hilliard I could see getting work as a freshman and starting as a sophomore. Much more made ready prospect. I'll add we brought in 4 LB's last cycle and 5 if you count Tranquill.

gotcha. i just really feel we need to get more athletic on defense and with BVG's new system i wonder if that is why we haven't heard as much on Deeb this spring compared to Schmidt? sure i think joe is very cerebral, but i thought maybe Deeb would have that advantage as well.

Count me in the camp that had other players above Bilal but I'd still be happy to have him on the team. He's a high character young man and would fit in well at ND.

I simply wanted Barajas and Osa Masina more. Couple those two with Hilliard and I saw the perfect LB haul, but Bilal would be a very good pickup and he can hopefully continue to develop and keep his speed.

And I totally agree and believe that it time Bilal will do that. I just don't think it happens in his first 2 years. On the Deeb/Schmidt topic and for that matter Morgan. I'm still skeptical that Schmidt will be the every down MLB against every team we play. BK has been talking quite a bit about situational football. I don't see Schmidt being able to hold up against Stanford and those types of teams we'll be playing. He may prove me wrong but I still haven't seen him do it and from practice updates we're doing very little first and second down work right now.

i hear you fully dude...i'm actually kind of surprised that we're working so heavily on 3rd down when last year it seemed like teams were constantly winning 1st down against us and putting them in much more manageable situations.

Size-Strength-Range
Bilial has very good height but is a bit leaner which can hinder his overall strength with lack of size and bulk that is needed for the outside linebacker position; but has room to fill out and add good weight. Displays good initial quickness to work downhill and slip blocks; Does not have great change of direction but will close quickly when tracking down the ball carrier.
Instincts/Take On Skills
Flashes natural instincts when it comes to keeping off of blocks and sifting through traffic. Seems to find the football quickly and will keep his head on a swivel for blockers in tight quarters. Can get engulfed by blockers if he does not initially win with quickness. Does not always lower body to take on blocks and deliver a punch to blocker.
Tackling
Is a strong drag down tackler. Does an average job to break down in space and wrap up on contact but more times than not will drive low on ball carrier. Lacks an explosive twitch to drive through ball carrier when lined up and in good position to uncoil a hit.
3rd Down Capabilities
Is productive to time blitzes accurately, particularly when aligned inside. Flashes underneath zone coverage; gets good depth and will read the QB. Could do better with awareness and feeling defenders but has the quickness to work underneath route and deflect pass.
Bottom Line
Bilal is a productive linebacker at the high school level. Will need to add bulk to frame but is an instinctive player who will mask a leaner frame with good quickness and the ability to slip blocks and make a tackle in tight areas. Most likely a Power Conference prospect but may not have great scheme versatility.

Offense and defense is so situational these days.

Anna did an interview with him (video). He's very laid back and quiet about everything in the interview. No leaders, taking his time and will decide whenever he feels comfortable with the right choice. He is attempting to narrow schools now but hasn't gotten anywhere. He may visit for the Invasion.
