Going to start DVD season 1 tonight. I know it'd be best to read them, but it would take me until the end of the summer before I could start watching the DVDs then. Pretty excited for the show.

Haven't read the novels yet, but I'll probably read the first two sometime this summer. Refuse to read ahead of the show

A non-reader probably wouldn't be too titillated by this theory anyways, considering they've probably never heard of the characters involved (besides Jon). I was sitting in the theater for Captain America 2 the other night and when they did the big Winter Soldier reveal, the non-comic readers were all "wait... what?"

That's a good point. The best evidence for the theory comes from parts of the 1st book that didn't really make it into the show because they take place in Ned's head. But Oberyn Martell kind of got at the issue last night, at least tangentially.

I've actually never read the books. I wast just curious.

PMs might be best since this isn't a Spoiler Thread. If you aren't worried about them you can check that thread or PM me, Emcee, wizard, Whiskey, or mgriff (might be forgetting some folks)

If I haven't read the books but am up to date on the show would hearing about the Jon Snow theory ruin anything for me? I'm obsessed with the show and I'm dying to know what you guys are talking about.

I was pretty pumped how they used the White Book. I fistpumped when they mentioned the Kingswood Brotherhood and the Smiling Knight.

I was more excited about the Dunk shout-out.

Like wizards said above, it probably wouldn't mean much to you since none of the characters involved with the theory have seen any screen time.

There is a way to do without spoiling anything in the future. Most of it is based off of stuff in the first book. And, as someone already said, Prince Oberyn just hinted at part of it. I will PM if you want

I'm going to be looking for more references to Dunk and Egg to see if they are going to hint at doing a prequel after Game of Thrones is over.

Or they could keep doing prequels forever. ASOIAF franchise 100 years, forever and ever

I want books, shows, movies, etc. about the Targaryen conquest of Westeros.

More than that, I want any material at all about Valyria and the Doom.

I like The Doom as a mystery, but Valyria sounds awesome. It's like Ancient Rome but with dragons.

A movie of Aegon's Conquest would be incredible. Harrenhal, the Field of Fire, Torrhen Stark bending the knee, hot sister-wives, Balerion, building of King's Landing, flying into the Eyrie, Orys Baratheon.

(Don't worry everyone, this isn't a spoiler. "The Doom" is just mentioned in passing as a "mystery" in a historical sense about the Targaryens and the fate of Valaryia, the land they came from. Not much plot to be spoiled.)

The very few-and-far-between hints and whispers of the "Doom" initially made me feel the same way; it's very cool to leave such a big mystery open and let the reader wonder what catastrophic event occurred, especially since it has virtually zero bearing on the plot of ASOIAF (unless I've completely missed something).

But considering the best guesses as to what the "Doom" was and the visual possibilities surrounding the land, both before and after the event, I would love to see it brought to life on the big screen (if put in capable hands.) I would pay all of the money to see it.

Btw, does anyone know where I can read a copy of his recent short story, "The Princess and the Queen, or the Blacks and the Greens"? I was hoping to find a PDF of just that story floating around but I haven't seen it.

At ~30,000 words, it's more of a novella than a short story. I haven't been able to find it in pdf form anywhere yet. The easiest way to get it is to buy Martin's anthology Dangerous Women off Amazon.

That whole scene had me rolling. The look on his face through the bushes after it shows that she disappeared from the bushes was hilarious to me.

I thought it was hilarious, but I also think Arya is too alright and in a light mood right now considering her brother and mother just died.

You mean the same girl that just taunted a man as she slowly slid a sword through his throat? She totally seems like her mood is light.

It's just different than the original scene from the book. That scene had an almost horror feel, and Arya was emotionally destroyed and manic, not like how she was in the show. She was having the light-hearted conversation with the Hound before the fight. I didn't really like how they used that scene, but I'm sure they will make up for it at the end of the season.

Yeah unfortunately they have to do things differently in the show sometimes. I assume there's a purpose but we'll see

I think a lot of it has to do with the season break. Like, in the book it was a few chapters after the Red Wedding. Here, it's 10 months after. The Red Wedding seems so far away when it really just happened in Westeros.

This is awesome. Don't watch unless you have seen seasons 1-3.
