The entire time I was reading that passage I was thinking to myself "omg just kill him you stupid Dornish idiot!"

Possibly my favorite passage in the entire series. I can't wait to see what HBO does with it.

The dialog as a whole in the series is amazing. My personal favorite is the Conversion with Jon and Lord Slynt. "You don't want to go to East Watch, fine take him to the top of the wall and hang him from it" or something to take effect.

Any dialogue involving Tyrion is my favorite (bonus points if it's with Bronn or Cersei).

Otherwise I really like the way Martin writes Jaime's parts. I guess I feel like he's really good with the Lannister dynamic in general.

I'm going to call a December 21st, 2014 release.

For "The Winds of Winter"?

Also Jon Snow is going to end up being like Coldhands and it is going to be awesome.

I thought about that, and that's one of the story lines that I never think about in the big picture but might be one of the most interesting. Who is Coldhands (it would be too obvious to be Benjen Stark, right?), and how is he "alive"? Does the greenseer control him, or is it something else that kept him alive?

It can't be Benjen, I remember one of the children of the forest tell Bran he's been dead for a long time, or at least I think I remember that. I drink a lot. I think Coldhands is going to end up being something like the Wraiths in LoTR, he did something in a past life, and now is paying off a debt. But, like I said I drink a lot.

Like say, maybe the Night's King? "with skin as white as the moon and eyes like blue stars", he chased her and loved her though "her skin was cold as ice", and when he gave his seed to her he gave his soul as well.

I was reading through theories and the theory page seemed pretty adamant that the Night's King had been taken care of and put out of existence. But of course Martin is never afraid to twist history a bit.

PS, I could spend days on end looking at theories about ASOIAF. I know someone posted a link earlier in this thread, but I hadn't really got too deep into the forums. I checked out some stuff this morning, just simple stuff via "Wiki of Ice and Fire," and I'm already convinced 100% about Jon Snow's parentage.

That one becomes painfully obvious once you re-read the first book with it in the back of your mind. Ned's POV chapters are pretty clear. I kicked myself hard for not seeing it myself the first time through.

It was most likely my link to the Heresy Threads on there. They are the ADWD subforum, look up the current thread, and there will be a guide to the 90 other threads and important bits.

The part where he's thinking about Robert's bastards and this train of thought about bastards leads him to Jon Snow, and then to Lyanna and Rheagar lol?

Or when he goes on and on about Jon being "his blood" without ever using the word "son."

What's really interesting to me is to discover what Ned's ultimate plans might have been, if in fact Jon Snow were the true heir to the Iron Throne. I guess it can't have been anything huge, since he let Jon Snow take the black.

But then why keep the secret? For fear that Robert would turn on his family if he found that the woman he had loved actually had a child with Rhaegar? For fear that people would seek him out, even on the wall?

And I'm still anxious to see how Howland Reed fits into it all, since he was there at the Tower of Joy and is the only person that knows what really went down before/after the fight. And when Ned Stark holds your honor in high regard, you're destined for a big part in the books at some point, right?

That would be the tits.

It would put one of Ned Stark's most trusted into the thick of the plot, and provide all types of possibilities considering he is most likely one of the only characters to know "the secret," aka Jon Snows parentage via the Tower of Joy.

the only analogy i can think of for GRRM taking so long is that a series of this literary magnitude is like war: easy to start--but very hard to end.

So the Benjen=Daario theory is kind of a joke on reddit, but, the recasting of Daario (with a guy who looks kind of like Benjen) and the Blue Rose (!Lyanna!) has me thinking that either I was too harsh before or that GRRM is fucking with us. Probably the latter.

For the original theory (and subsequent ribbing it took): (Spoilers ALL) Benjen Stark's Secret Identity Theory : asoiaf

Thought I would share since it's been brought up again on forums.

Yeah the blue rose in the episode made me think of the theory as well. I wonder if that was supposed to reference Lyanna/Rhaegar. There was a lot of past references in this episode with the White Book and Oberyn talking about Elia and Rhaegar. That is what made me love this episode so much.

Did the Inn scene seem odd to any book readers? I figured they would would show the Hound being injured in some way so that the infection doesn't come off as completely random, but I don't recall the Hound getting hurt at all in the scene.

I thought the same thing, but considering it was the first of ten episodes, they are probably simply trying to let their story line play out a bit more before the Hound is wounded.

I wouldn't want every Hound/Arya scene over the next 9 episodes to be him getting more and more sick. It would get stale that way.

I guess I assumed he wouldn't be a part of the entire season. Was thinking they would "kill" him off in the first 3 episodes.

Next week looks like it's Joffrey's wedding so I'm excited for all the YouTube videos of people going nuts.

I was really hoping they would do it in episode one, just to start off with a bang and to blow all non-readers' minds, now that they are conditioned to expect nothing but bad things.

Benjen's whereabouts are maybe the most intriguing mystery to me. I'm certain he isn't done playing a role in the story (and maybe Jon's presence was event that allowed him to absent himself from the wall) but I find the Daario theory uncompelling in the extreme.

Agreed on all counts. He's gonna show up again somewhere, but not as Daario Naharis.

I think it's likely that the show replaced Daario Naharis just because of a scheduling conflict with the other actor, as this article speculates:

‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 4 Spoilers: Why Was There A New Daario Naharis In Season Premiere ‘Two Swords’?

I do think it's possible that the show producers put in the blue rose bit just to screw with us.
