Only one game but i expected a bit more out of Rizzo, he didnt seem very up come game time. Very Cubs way to start the season but i still believe this team plays .500 ball through out the year

Agreed, this is a very important year for Rizzo and Castro. I don't think they will move on from Rizzo if he can hit 20 HRs again but if Castro doesn't hit close to .300 I think his time may be up in the North Side.

Let me stop you right there.

Tuffy Rhodes hit 3 HRs on opening day one year and, lo and behold, he didn't hit 486 on the year. The first day means very little, especially when facing a left handed pitcher who was downright filthy. We took him deep into counts and got the pitch count up quickly, but just couldn't break through.

Doesn't mean Rizzo won't have a bad year (I think he's going to bust out a bit). He may. Opening day just doesn't really indicate much.

Castro 0-6 and committed and error that led to a run, not to mention stranding base runners. Can't start the year much worse than he has.

I was nervous about him from the beginning because of his low OBP. But I think the new approach last year was just deadly for him. He was thinking a ton at the plate, which isn't really his game. Here's hoping he gets through that.

The defensive issue tonight isn't really new.

Cubs 1-27 with runners in scoring position through 2 games. That about sums it up.

anyone who thought castro would come out on fire after missing his second straight spring training was crazy. hopefully a nice chunk of at bats gets him back in the groove but it doesn't look good for the young man.

Fun game to watch tonight. Love watching Rizzo, Olt, and Lake produce like they did tonight. Starlin seems to be squaring the ball up and played a good game at short tonight. Hammel looks like he is going to be Feldman 2.0 and last but not least, the bullpen still sucks.

Anyone have insight on when Baez will get the call up? How are they going to fit him into the lineup? Would they put Barney out to pasture and move Castro to second?

I can see him playing in AAA until the rosters expand unless they deal Barney, which I don't see happening.

They will keep him down into June so he doesn't get Super 2 status and I'm guessing it will be at second base. Baez has had a rough time of it with the glove.

So is he just gonna be Castro 2.0? Lol. I know Starlin has been pretty suspect on defense. I hope Baez would be better considering all the hype he has produced.

Either way, I love the direction the Cubs' farm system is going. A lot of very good prospects in there. I'm very excited for when Kris Bryant gets called up.

Maybe except Baez is potentially going to be a sub-par glove who is a major plus at the plate so it might be easier to stomach. Everything I've read suggests he has good tools but his error rate is frightening. Perhaps putting him at 2B will help him by shortening the throws?

The Cubs have a legit SS glove in Arismendy Alcantara. He is the real threat to push Castro out of Chicago.

I'm sooooooo pumped about Bryant. Last year at draft time I was (figuratively) praying the Astros would take Appel or Gray and the Cubs would avoid the temptation to bolster their weak pitching by drafting the other. IMO, Bryant was far and away the best prospect in that draft.

Is this the year? No

However I'm much much much more optimistic than I was a week ago. If Rizzo, Castro, and the rest of the youngsters keep batting like they are supposed to as far I'm concerned puts the Cubs back on schedule. I'd say the five year plan is back on track as opposed to the 125 year plan.

Theo knows what he is doing. Best pickup the Cubs have had in...well, maybe ever.

never understood the non cubs fans coming in and making comments....feels good kicking people when they are down

Jerkoffs will be jerkoffs.

Horrible start for Rizzo and Castro though. At least the Shark looks good.

I've made comments in here, but unless I forget a friendly jab, all of them have been in support of the Cubs... hope this wasn't at me.

that's two series vs divisional that we were in position to take. i know it's early but those are the things the good teams do.

i do like the way we look at the moment tho. only 2 games we haven't had an opportunity.
