This South Oak Cliff team has remarkable team speed. Besides Prentice McKinney, there are many division 1 prospects. Watching the film, I am reminded of south Florida football, and this team could give Booker T or American Heritage a good match up. I am most impressed with a lineman - #15 Marvin Terry. Not very big, he will play linebacker in college. This fall, they have scheduled games against Cedar Hill, De Soto, and Grand Prairie. The eyes of not only Texas but the nation will be upon this football team. The South Oak Cliff coach, Emmett Jones, is a program builder. Would like to learn more about the Joe Thomas connection. Is Thomas actively recruiting Texas for Notre Dame?

He’s really one of the top safeties in the state and I think he’s actually one of the top safeties in the country. I’d put him up against anyone. That's a big steal for Notre Dame. I’ve known Coach Cooks for a few years and have met him in person a few times,” Smith said. “One thing I can tell you about him is that he knows talent. He recruits Texas really well and he’s highly respected here in Texas. People in the Dallas area love him. He can walk into any school in Dallas and everyone will know who he is. He talks to you about life, school and football and just everything. He’s just a great person. He talks to the coaches and shares ideas on how to help them during their own season. He talks scheme and he actually cares. You can really appreciate that. He’s a really nice guy. I have the utmost respect for him and the Notre Dame program.

Have not found much about former Notre Dame linebacker Joe Thomas. Like teammate Allen Rossum(Skyline), Joe is from Dallas. In a Notre Dame college profile, Joe stated that he would like to work with juveniles, particularly mentoring juveniles in high risk situations. Presently, he is working at South Oak Cliff High as a police officer/social worker.

Just gave an interesting interview to Bartow. At the end of some encouraging bits there are these land mines:
Notre Dame will likely receive one of his five official visits during his senior year, but he also has a few other destinations in mind, as well.

“I’m going to take the visits after the season,” he said. “I’ll probably go somewhere that I haven’t been or where my parents want me to go. I might go visit Michigan, Arizona and if any offers come in before that time comes, then maybe I’ll go visit them.”

McKinney is up to 17 offers, but admits that he still wants offers from Florida State and Auburn. Of the schools recruiting him that haven’t offered, he said that Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State and Oklahoma State are the ones recruiting him the hardest.

So to recap... he commits without seeing campus, is still actively looking for other offers, and wants to take a bunch of OVs right before NSD. Sounds like we have a long way to go to actually lock this one down, hopefully we make a strong impression next weekend.

Damn. Hope it doesn't end up being that dramatic of a recruitment, but that's definitely not what you want to hear from a recent commit. Any chance it was out of context? What were the encouraging bits?

It may not be taken totally out of context, but I'm guessing it's not as bad as it sounds.

If it is, he's about as committed as Justin Hilliard at this point.

Bartow always seems to have the best and most controversial recruit interviews. Take that as you will. This certainly comes out of left field after gushing about ND and all things Irish a week or two ago.

-When I say best I don't mean to me or accurate news. I mean the hottest scoop around.

I'm hoping it was more of a "are there any offers you would like to have?" type of question, simply in terms of recognition. That can easily be construed as "I'm actively shopping for bigger offers."

Leading questions are always a possibility. And Bartow, among others, really pushes for "scoop" more than your general bland updates. The last two sentences can easily be attributed to what you're saying.

The middle quote is a little more difficult, but can also be explained by the right leading questions. There's little doubt that his situation and outlook can change drastically for better or worse on his visit. He might love it, talk to the coaches, and shut it down. He also might be underwhelmed and completely open it up. The proof will be in the pudding on how "committed" he is or is not. Follow the actions.

Oklahoma commit Jamile Johnson says he's solid to the Sooners, not planning to take any other official visits in the fall and is trying to recruit his teammate, Notre Dame commit Prentice McKinney.

Notre Dame commit Prentice McKinney says he will be back at ND next weekend. He also feels 4-star RB Ronald Jones will commit to Notre Dame when he visits in the summer.

after seeing that video i feel like some of the quotes are very misleading. Of course offers from schools like Alabama and Auburn are going to be "big", they are national powers. Also if his parents are as big of ND suppor.ters as we have heard, then the visits should be no problem either

He obviously didn't want to "go there" in his interview. He was a bit self conscious, and it is probably tough for a recruit in Texas to pick ND. If you think ND fans go ape-shit about a decommit, or a hometown recruit lost, you should look at what it is like from Texas, across the deep south!
