Fictional conversation between Kelly and Diaco:
BD: Coach, you going to let me have both Dan and Carlo?
BK: Maybe not, Bob, better plan otherwise. We could hit a jackpot in the next week.
BD: Yes, I thought that. How about just Dan?
BK: That's what I'm seeing. Can you make that work?
BD: Yes. Not ideal, but yes.
BK: What's your plan?
BD: Without Carlo but with Dan we've got 13 linebackers with hopefully one more recruit, and using no DBs.
BK: Break it down for me.
BD: Spond, Councell, and Smith at DOG --- loaded.
---- Shembo, Williams, and Okwara, Utupo, or Rabasa as a third CAT, that is loaded too.
---- Grace and Fox starting in the middle [that will be solid I believe]...
BK: Subs?
BD: Well, Deeb and Moore belong there, but I think we need to put Randolph and Rabasa there too. AND, I'd like to cross-train either Ben or Danny --- not both --- we can see in the Spring. Joe can be the last line of defense here.
BK: Grace and Fox. What if, God forbid, both are hurt or sick some Saturday?
BD: I think that then is when we move Danny or Ben over, and Jaylon into more playing time, and fill the other spot with Anthony, Michael or Doug. No team has great solutions if BOTH internal LBs go down at once.
BK: And if we get another CAT?
BD: Makes the Rabasa thing easier; ... also lets me cross-train Romeo at DE and leave Justin there.
BK: Not ideal I guess but there seem to be some young studs who want in.
BD: I can make it work, Coach.
BK: Yes, I know. That's why you got the raise.
