So he is down to 305 now? Good for him. I hope he tears it up. From what little bit has been reported, it sounds like his draft grade might be affected by the weight gain last year and the possibility it happens again. It seems to be a really big issue for some NFL scouts.

He really seems to be falling in the NFL's eyes, coming back might have been the better option for him. Disappointing. :/

Surprised to see Scott Crichton ahead of him. I can't say I saw many of his games, but he looks like a tweener from a measurables standpoint, and his evaluation makes him sound like a major project.

Four ND players listed in the top five at different positions...nice!~

Mayock did an interview with ISD recently where he said he could see Martin moving up to the number 2 guard being chosen, along with Troy as 2nd TE. Would be sick.

Tuitt is a good combine showing away from moving into the 1st round...i think last year's film is really hurting him right now.

he needs to show up to the combine healthy and in shape to show the executives he has the same potential he flashed as a sophomore

Just thinking back to that fumble return he had against Navy in 2012, if he is at that level again heading into the combine, he could run a 4.8 and wow some people at 300+.

even Trent Murphy ahead of him is a surprize to me. Never even heard of Crichton before. :S

His 2013 film is bad. Was much slower and really only had one pass rushing move and it wasn't very effective. Really really wish he and Niklas had stayed.

I thought he looked better as the season went on, but in my eyes he was still nowhere near 2012. I'll still be shocked if he is still there mid second round.

i think somebody could get a steal with him in the draft if the majority of teams just look at the 2013 tape.

Maybe there is a silver lining here. Other than Nix, (who had to leave in my opinion), and Martin (who exhausted eligibility, so I am saying that his fifth year is an example of how Tuitt and Niklas would have profited by staying), I don't see anyone else who left early for good reason.

Particularly Niklas and Tuitt. If those guys lose in the draft, I won't be so upset. There has to be order to it all. Niklas didn't develop his craft. He was good, because he was such a specimen, but not great. Maybe a team will take a flier. Tuitt, had a very retrograde year. What he established as a sophomore was undone. With his surgery and rehabilitation he would have been much better off with a dominant senior year. Which he really could have had with BVG.

Just to make it clear I love these guys and feel for them. I lay all the blame at the feet of the pos agents that sold them what I believe amounts to a bill of goods.

I do wish them the best. I hope they complete their degree which is more important to me than their football success, and they return to talk to recruits and players in the future.

NFL Events: Combine Player Profiles - Stephon Tuitt

ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS
Looks the part -- has prototypical dimensions for a five-technique. Long-armed to play off blocks. Holds his ground at the point of attack. Can stack and shed. Has excellent movement skill for a man his size. Plays on his feet. Coordinated and in control of his body. Knee bender able to flatten or redirect efficiently. Strong wrap tackler. Scheme and position versatile -- played end and tackle in even and odd fronts. Notched 20.5 sacks in 28 career starts. Disrupts passing lanes.

WEAKNESSES
Monotone edge rusher -- not a quick-twitch athlete (average get-off quickness). Can play with more consistent leverage. Hip and shoulder stiffness shows when he attempts to bend the corner. Can do a better job shooting his hands with authority to jolt blockers. Needs to become a better hands fighter and develop pass-rush moves. Can play with more violence. Average intensity and relentlessness.

BOTTOM LINE
Hulking, long-armed, physically gifted defensive lineman with desirable size, strength, athleticism and versatility to appeal as a five-technique or as a defensive tackle or base end in a 4-3. Was not in peak condition for his junior season, but has disruptive upside.

A lot about his draft position will be based on teams discussions with BK and staff. They will want to get a clear understanding of his injury, weight gain, how long it took for him to heal, and what the doctor had to say. Before you hit me with HIPAA, I believe potential players sign an agreement allowing teams to look at their medical records.

Yeah, so I have two thoughts here:

1) Would have been nice to have him playing at that weight this past season (what could have been...)

2) Someone needs to let him know he was a sophomore that year, not a junior; though it would be REALLY funny if he left because he thought he was a senior this season lmao

If neither go in the top 20 that would be quite a fall for both considering there was quite a bit of top ten, even top five talk about both at the start of, and on throughout, the year...

Why wasn't he? The injury? Or some sort of decision to play big? Nix put on some weight this past year, too, right? In both cases it does not seem to have helped. Fire Longo

Seeing as there was no change in defensive scheme and he had one helluva 2012, I can only assume it was the hernia that never allowed him the proper time to cut weight and get into ideal shape. Sucks, could have gone out with the sack record.

Is it fair to say that he has not been taken this season too seriously?

About the hernia surgery, he even claimed that was not a factor in this process. There are other players who had the same surgery (Shazier, Fuller, Breslin..) and they have been in good shape. I do not think that weigh 328 lbs AFTER the season is acceptable. Now, in one month, when money (NFL) talks, he is at 305. Anyway, i wish him the best, of course.

I think Stephon got a little too comfortable imo.
Wave some money in front of someone's face, and that'll make anyone lose 20 pounds.
I feel like this past season was a self-motivation issue.

From the little that I've heard, he was playing heavier than the team wanted him at. With that, he has to have some discipline when maintaining his weight. Hope he hits a home run at the combine. The higher the Irish players are drafted, the better for the program.

A 305 pound Tuitt is almost top 10 worthy. He won't get drafted in the top 10 but he will be a huge steal if he is picked outside the top 20

Prospects with most riding on scouting combine - 2014 NFL Draft - ESPN

3. Stephon Tuitt, DE, Notre Dame

I feel as though Tuitt’s draft stock has slowly eroded over the course of the past year, but he has a chance to regain some traction with a strong combine showing. For starters, I’m interested in seeing his measurables and body type. Is he really in the 6-foot-5, 6-6 range? How is he carrying his 300-plus pounds? Does he have the long arms and big hands you’d expect? And what kind of shape is he in currently?

How he works out will be big, too. There are so few guys his size who can move the way he does (Minnesota’s Ra'Shede Hageman is another one), that if he performs as well in the drills as some are expecting him to, he could turn the heads of a lot of coaches -- head coaches, defensive coordinators and D-line coaches specifically. The possibility of getting a 6-6, 300-pound defensive end who runs like he’s 280 pounds is extremely tempting -- even when it's a guy whose tape doesn’t always stack up.
