McCloud has a ton of offers, including some from the big boy instate programs (Miami, Florida), and most of the time, it takes a while for these Florida boys to come around.

He's probably smart enough to know this period of recruiting is totally and intolerably boring. Probably Alford or some coach said, "this is an ND kid, I bet he'll be very interested once things get rolling."

Plus, the headline "Stud [fill in position] from [fill in state] may have some interest in Irish, may or may not visit in future" just isn't cutting it.

People want up to date info, but 99% of the time there is nothing useful to learn on most of these kids besides ND is interested and they want a good education. Think of how many studs have offers from ND when you go down the Top 250 lists, and how few of them were ever remotely interested.
