Barnett will eventually be recognized as one of the top recruits in the country, so we already have one IMO. I think Cornell will come to ND as well, so there's two. After that, I have no clue.

As long as Blake's work ethic remains as high as it has been, I don't see how he won't be recognized as a top QB recruit next year. I could see borderline 5 star at worst but I expect him to make the leap.

Barnett should attract a couple top tier skilled players to follow him to ND. Damn it should be an easy sell to these guy to have the possible top qb and stacking up another stud OL class.

The start to '15 is already elite and I really think this might be the best class we've seen in recent memory.

15 will be flashy.

It took 5 years, but we finally have all the depth issues fixed.

I see a great season on the field and finally taking a Alabama approach to recruiting. We will land elite kids at each position group

I am a front 7 and dl nut, but I see lots of elite skilled talent in the Irish 15 class.

1 qb
2 rb
3wr
1 te
3 ol

Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com Ranking - Rivals.com Rivals100 2015

OK, Barnett is currently #61 and Cornell #74. Pretty big jump to get to #30. If Barnett is a top 2 QB he will jump to five stars. That will shake out at camps this summer. Cornell, seems like he needs to be a minimum 6'4" 250lbs with ridiculous quicks this summer at camps to make that big of a jump. Someone also has to drop in order for these guys to move up as well.

More targeted question, are we in the mix with any of the top 10 or top 20 on the current list? 4 top 20s already committed and the vast majority are from CA or the south. SEC and USC territory. Uphill battle guys, plus I'm not seeing areas that compel me to have faith in their ability to pass admissions.

I think ND will finish around 10 again this year. Too many SEC schools are hot spots to be right now. Then you figure FSU, tOSU, Oregon, USC, and UCLA are recruiting well also. Gonna be tough to land a top class w/ multiple 5 stars even if ND makes the playoffs.

To me it is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

There is a rating bias towards the southeast right now (and it is justifiable to a degree). So when X school in the south inks the hometown boys, they get a high ranking. I am not saying the system is rigged or anything like that. But, when all else is equal, the kid in the south is going to get the higher ranking than the kid from NJ.

Case in point. Justin Jones is the 20th player overall in the state of Georgia by rivals and is inside their top 250 and plays DE. He signed with NC State over Miami. Had offers from lower tier SEC schools. Compare him to Andrew Trumbetti who is a 3 star and isn't sniffing the top 250, yet has offers from Florida, Clemson, Stanford, FSU, etc. You cannot convince me that if you take these two players and simply flip which state they play in and nothing else, that Trumbetti would still be a 3 star. I assure you their ranking would flip for nothing more than the two letters after their hometown.

For this reason, I tend to take the rankings with a grain of salt. The top 50 or so kids are usually pretty easy to identify. But from there on, I think it is more or less an educated guess based on the biases of the rater.

I think 3 is definitely possibly, with 2 being likely, as long as Blake Barnett does the camp circuit and blows up how he should. I think we will definitely get one more in addition to him, whether it be Cornell, Hilliard, Fitzpatrick, or one of the UM decommits.

To be fair this year we had some bad luck. Tommy hurt our record which probably cost us some guys (I bet if we beat OU and they missed the BCS we get Quick). Furthermore, the RB situation was bad luck. If not for dealing drugs Starks is a borderline 5 star, and if not for parents Hood is as well. New coach to SC cost us Juju, etc.

This year Barnett will set the tone on O. He's going to the elite 11 committed to ND and will be in everyone's ear. We lead for Cornell who is likely a 5 star. We have the QB to run our offense, Van Gorder is a better recruiter than Diaco etc. (Lafleur is likely better than Martin as well).

If we sign Barnett, Hillard, Cornell, Tillery and Hoge... I'm good.

I'll say we land 3. I will stretch it to say only 1 of Tillery, Barnett and Hoge end up 5 stars. We pick up 2 more. Yes, that means we have an amazing class.

Our best class in 10 years was the class with Crist. Coming off a 3-9 year. Having that charismatic 5 star Cali QB does wonders. Hopefully this Cali QB pans out a bit better...

2013 was better in my opinion. Jaylon, Redfield, Elmer, Folston, etc... It's the class that is the foundation of our next NC run IMO. It had similar recruiting rankings as the one in 2009 depending on the service.

We have gotten 3 5 stars in several classes. Or at least had them committed at one point. Tuitt's class had 3 I believe. I think at least one service had Tuitt, Lynch, and Ishaq with 5 stars. 2012 had Tee, Darby, and Greenbury but in the end none we didn't get any of them. And last year we had 4 with Jaylon, Bryant, Redfield, and EV. It's not that difficult to get 3. We don't seem to do too well getting more than that and don't always get their LOI (or they don't honor the LOI). I think it is possible to get 3 5 stars this year. Barnett should easily be a 5 star and Hoge is the best Center in the country and should have a 5th star when all said and done.

Don't forget about Jaylon last year.

And Bryant was the 5 star out of him and Folston. Not sure if they were consensus but we signed 4 5 stars last year. We didn't end up with the #2 ranking like in 2008 but I think we signed more playmakers and had a more rounded class. 2008 didn't fill a lot of our needs where 2013 did except at DT.

He may be the best center but HS centers rarely get 5 stars.

You're right, but he should get a 5th star for his versatility. He could probably play all 5 positions on the OL and if you looked at his 24/7 composite rating of .9665, he ranks as the #1 (OC), #3 (OG) and #7 (OT). There are currently four OL (3 OTs and 1 OG) ranked as 5-stars. He would have to make a huge jump to get it, but either way, I'm going to view him as a 5-star recruit in this class.

I think best case we get 2. Barnett will have to be bumped up to 5-star status and then Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick is a longshot but he is the closest thing we have to a 5 star with interest.

Depends which recruiting service. ESPN has him #1 overall and the others aren't as high on him. Also Hilliard has a pretty good shot at a fifth star and I think we ultimately get him.
