Oh, haha. In that case there's nothing to hold out hope for.

EFF. I really wanted him.

Quick is one of those shifty, lightning quick WRs that OU uses to such devastating effect. Guys like Jalen Saunders and Sterling Shepard ate us up this year. It kills me to see him going there to be one of them when we need a guy like that here.

Not saying the sky is falling. We've got plenty of guys we can throw in at slot WR, we can do more TE stuff, but we don't have anybody quite like Quick. Well, maybe Fuller? I guess we'll see.

I totally let my hopes get up, in spite of myself.

Blah. Really liked this kid and Alexander. Sucks we couldn't close on them. At least Alexander I could understand better. This one... well, ND isn't what he wants, I suppose.

Love this class, though. Happy NSD.

Edit: Thinking on this, I suppose if a kid is really torn between Oklahoma and ND, and he's not growing up in Oklahoma territory, he's probably not going to be very successful or happy here. They're just not in the same ballpark, message-wise, for a kid going so far for school either way. IMO.

Honestly and i said this two days ago, his senior film is a little disappointing IMO. Anyway, he would be a great player for us. Good luck Michiah!

Another recruit from north cali, Nifae Lealao, signed with Vanderbilt. I think he would have been great for us.

I hate Fresno.

FTFY. The Fresno Bee is just the messenger.

Fuck that city. I hope our staff considers the Frenso Curse as they decide how to deploy recruiting resources in the future.

We should stop wasting time in CA and deploy more resources to the Mid-Atlantic.

I think Hunter is that roll, and will be really damn good at it. It's important to remember that Hunter and Bryant are essentially part of this class as well.

LAX has been beating that drum for months. I'd love to see a breakdown of our recent Cali recruits and how they've panned out. My intuition is that we've received a very poor return on the recruiting resources we've invested in that state.

Hunter, yes, good call. I should have mentioned him.

Why would we ever stop recruiting a state we have such deep ties in and produce some of the top players in the country? You win some you lose some.

Cali has always been pretty good for us and there is still a lot of talent, but Louisania and the Mid Atlantic would be a good place to put a lot of resources.

Yea, I think Denbrock does a helluva job. It just isn't producing players.

I think a breakdown by private vs public school recruits could also show something.

Redfield and Barnett are from Ca, can't think of any others atm.

Because it seems like for every productive ND career we get 2 or 3 that spurn us in a NSD decision, decommit late, or transfer before every doing anything. This is part of the reason ND has had number issues the past few years. I would guess that we have a much better hit rate in other parts of the country that also produce top talent.

Not positive on that analysis and it would be interesting to see some sort of breakdown.

It's horrible. Someone on ISD put one up a while ago, same with 247. Horrible rate of decommits, horrible rate of flameouts, and the success stories, like Niklas, almost all come with a disclaimer.

After debating this on end, I've amended my stance to be more "if you're going to recruit California, you have to treat each commitment as if they're not going to sign, and recruit contingency plans accordingly."

Is Luatua high risk? Yep. Did we recruit a contingency plan? Yep, a very good one. This was well executed.

Was Dickerson high risk? Not on the surface, but #California. Did we recruit a contingency plan? NO. Thank God we snagged Mokwuah and Cage late. This was not well executed, but we did OK with our scramble.

You just cannot recruit California and take their pledges at face value. There are exceptions for sure, and I think Barnett is probably one, but otherwise every pledge from the Golden State needs to be treated as a luxury NOT a need filler.

Ummm... The cornerstone to our 2015 class is from CA. Your post is crazy talk.

That's fantastic, but he's an exception. We didn't waste resources fighting for him. He is a ND guy and made a quick decision. That doesn't undo the wasted resources spent on the Greenberrys, Tees, Vanderdoes, Dickersons, etc. I'm sure I'm forgetting more.

Well thought out, this seems to be the best way to recruit the area, totally agree.

2010 - Roberson, Utupo
2011 - Schmidt, Niklas, Atkinson twins
2012 - Sheperd, Greenberry, Armstead brothers
2013 - Redfield, Vanderdoes
2014 - Luatua, Quick, Dickerson

As you can see, California has not been good to us over the last 3 cycles. The 2012 class was arguably the last one where the return justified our investment. I'm not suggesting that we stop recruiting CA altogether (Barnett, etc.), but I think we need to do it more judiciously.

At least Clausen and Crist stayed true to their commitment. 2 true ND kids at the time of their recruitment.
