I read on SI that the reason his parents are against him going to MSU is they overheard him talking to a MSU player about how you don't have to go to class. Do the parents really think FSU and OSU will be any different?

See the Cage thread ... there's a bit more to it than that, per Wiltfong.

Not sure about FSU but I believe that pOSU has really beefed up their Golfing classes

“@davebiddle: McDowell's mother: "I don't think I should have to put anyone at Michigan State on blast about what happened. They know what happened."”

“@davebiddle: She says if "everyone knew the truth" they would better understand why she was so involved.”

“@davebiddle: The rumor is that an MSU staffer pulled Malik aside, told him he was now a man and it needed to be his decision. Mom didn't like that.”

“@davebiddle: McDowell's mother: "I had a bad experience at Ohio State one time, but it was resolved."”

“@davebiddle: Also rumors swirling that McDowell was told by MSU player he didn't have to go to class. Recruiting drama, y'all.”

This was a post on the Elevenwarriors site. Evidently Malik's Mom was interviewed on a Detroit radio program today

His mom's reaction when asked what she would do if Malik chose MSU, "Ummmm.... I don't even want to think about that". Later on she said, "that's not going to happen".

I can't wait to see how this ends up. I envision her leaping across a table and snatching the LOI from him just like that kid's mom did last year.

His mom shouldn't be making any of this public. How embarrassing for Malik.

A lot of these kids do not have any guidance, some have terrible guidance, some could care less about the guidance they get. The one thing we do know about these kids is that we have no idea who is right or who is wrong. I am never going to fault parents who are actively involved with their kids as long as it seems to be in the best interest of navigating a system that is notorious for not caring for the long term interests of the kids involved. I'm much rather the mother be honest about the system and how the game is played rather than allowing these snakes, goons, and salesmen to hoodwink kids into bad situations for their own twisted gains.

God Bless Malik if that was my mom I would put her in a home pronto. God it's his decision not yours.

You can care about your child and help their decision without talking to reporters and calling your son immature on twitter.

Of course you can. I thought they quoted her on twitter? She didn't tweet that did she? We also have no idea the things her son has been told by staffs nor do we know what his attitude has been to his parents the whole time. So, as I said not knowing those things I err on the side of the involved and actively giving-a-sh!t parents.

Basically, none of you have any fvcking idea what is going on except IFhjo15. And he has a more precise understand of the details, the options, and the possibilities. And he honestly and readily admits he has no idea what is going on, that his whole post is based upon assumptions. But he asks questions, and doesn't assume he knows the scoop. Some of you hear a statement and plug in right in to your 15-year-old-selves-experience.

Good for him. Can't tell me FSU or Ohio State is a better environment. Make the decision you want to make.

^ This

The only thing is at MSU, some of his HS buddies Mom doesn't like could visit easier, but Mom and Pop are close too. Also, at those other schools he could fall in with similar crowd and parents would be harder pressed to intervene at that distance.
