13-1 in 2013.
7-6 in 2012.
11-3 in 2011.
11-2 in 2010.

They might be 1-3 against Kelly, but their record is 42-12 the last four years compared to 37-15 compared to ND.

There is NO way MSU goes 42-12 in the last four years with ND's schedule.

What the ****? Kid grew up a Notre Dame fan and he can't decide between us and Sparty?

Something doesn't match up there.

Looks like a dead horse at this time, but Wooly, we are getting Kolin Hill who grew up a Texas fan which I think is a spot on comparison. Sometimes one staff just beats another.

I duno, who have we beaten during these last four years that MSU definitely wouldn't have?

In 2013, they beat Stanford. Maybe (maybe?) they would have lost to OU and that's it. I think they would have been 11-1 with our schedule. (actually, how the hell am i supposed to say how they'd do against our schedule when we play them in one of our games?)

They weren't great in 2012, so I'm sure they would have lost to Stanford, OU, and USC in addition to their loss against Michigan.

We didn't exactly have an impressive showing in 2011. We beat MSU and 7 crappy teams. We had terrible losses to USF and Michigan. I actually am pretty positive that MSU would have beat our 8-5 record in 2011 with our schedule.

Likewise in 2010, our best wins were Utah and USC. Terrible losses to Tulsa and Navy. MSU would have lost to Stanford and I'm not sure who else that year.

I don't know where I'm really going with this, but MSU is solid and I think have been on par with us since Kelly arrived. And we are a lot better now than we were in 2010 and 2011 haha

I think you all need to chip in and get a few lids of coke, and a room full of girls and stay lost for a few days. At least until after signing day.

You want to go where you think it's your best opportunity. That's a holistic thing. You include social fit + academics + coaches + football+ etc. etc. etc.

If you're not being recruited by someone all year and they jump in late, then it becomes very hard to justify going to play for those coaches instead of the ones who have been showing you that they believe in you from day 1. If the coaches have a legitimate reason for jumping in late, like hiring BVG, then that's possible to overcome... but still difficult. Never underestimate relationships > all in recruiting. Which is kind of messed up when you think about it, because coordinator and scheme changes are VERY common in CFB.

If McDowell winds up anywhere but MSU, it will be for the wrong reasons and it will be a shame. Hope he follows his heart.

At the same time, there must be a reason his parents are so adamant about him not going there.

How do you know? Like Ironman said, there must be a good reason his parents don't want him there.

You just want to land Cage, and you think that will help.

Maybe, or maybe they are the type of parents that like to control their children, or maybe they are getting money from the other two schools. Do you or IM8 think that EH's dad did the right thing for EH? I always viewed it as a parents job to provide guidance but not their job to make this decision for their child. The parents airing this out in public seems like an attempt to force his hand. Not a fan of that.

This is easy. Parents want him to leave so he'll get away from "negative influences." Get away from people who could drag him down.

To me there is just a smell-test difference between pushing a kid towards a certain school, and being open to all schools BUT ONE. To me, that just seems like there is something tangible there below the surface that we don't know about that really bothered the parents or prevents them from wanting to send their son there.

I don't think parents should control the process, but I do believe it is there job to try and protect their children and have their best interests at heart. If that is what the McDowell's are doing here, which is seems like they might be, I not only have no problem with it, I applaud it.

I understand his parents wanting one thing while he may want another.......how many times do we tell our kids what is right and what is wrong??? Just because he's leaving the "nest", doesn't mean his parents don't have his best interests at heart. They have their reasons for not wanting him to play his college ball in the state of Michigan, neither you, nor do I have the first clue as to what those reasons may be, but it wouldn't be a shame if his parents told him to go elsewhere......

My main issue with it is the parents airing it in public. It is one thing to talk with your child in private but I feel that airing it in public is wrong.

I can respect that. The only way I would think it would be ok is if they believe they have tried everything else to keep him from a perceived danger at MSU, and are using it as a last resort.

While I believe it is the parents duty to let Malik know the potential problems they see with a destination, I think you have to leave the decision ultimately up to him. If he decides that's where he truly wants to go, and that he can succeed at msu, than I think the parents are doing him a disservice not allowing him to go.

There doesn't HAVE to be good reasons for his parents to want what they want.

Are you seriously telling me that FSU and OSU are tight ships with coaches who focus on keeping kids inline? Devoid of troublemakers and bad influences? And that they have great academics?

I mean I can understand wanting to keep him away from the "home grown" knuckleheads that he already knows... but at the same time, I think it's laughable that they think the "better" course of action would be to ship him off to play for URBAN FREAKING MEYER or F$U.

While I stand by my earlier post, this is true. Hah

We don't know the dynamics of the decision - why MSU is so hated by the parents. Could be anything. Could be a situation where there is a legit reason and choosing to go to an OSU or FSU is the lesser of the evils.

We don't know. To judge or assume without facts is just silly to me.

We seem to have a strong shot at Quick and the two DTs. I'd be thrilled with that finish. Odd to be gaining momentum going into Signing Day. Feels like it's usually going the other direction.
