Proper gumbo takes years to age.

First you got to slaughter the hogs, for the sausage. This is said with the utmost respect. I am a lucky mfer for living up here and having tasted the wares of two of the greatest gumbo chefs, ever! Here is to Miss Faye, and Todd-C-ville! But you need the right sausage, even before you need the right spices.

Miss Faye used to live across the street. She would start her gumbo. She always made twice as much as she wanted. Half was for me, in trade for doing projects around her and Fats' house. Fats wasn't as handy. Anyways, it was a two day process. I always thought it was to give me plenty of time to schedule the time. Now I know better. Good gumbo takes two to three days. Period.

They've definitely been telling kids that. Wiltfong has mentioned it as a forgone conclusion recently. However, TJ mentioned the other day the we specifically recruited PM for NT. So some conflicting stuff out there. I'm going to continue to believe that we'll run some sort of hybrid 4-3/3-4 until I'm told or see differently. Kelly specifically said during one of his interviews that he believes that gives his teams the best chance to win.

Right, this is where I am. And it makes sense that we would play up the 4-3 change to a DT ... don't most DTs prefer a 4-3 because of the perception that in a 3-4 they will just be asked to two-gap?

I've been assuming for awhile that our pitch to Alexander is he has a very good chance of playing Nickel CB from Day 1. I don't think we'll be playing that every down or as our base defense but its our way of letting him know that he'll have a spot as soon as he gets on campus.

Also, keep in mind guys that these coaches aren't necessarily lying to these kids but they're being vague because they just don't have the time at the moment to sit them and their families down and explain the specific nuances that BVG's defense will have. It will take these kids a few months to figure it out. How is the staff supposed to get them up to speed in these in-home visits or phone calls in a short period of time. Lastly, I firmly believe that BVG hasn't even put his plan in place yet. They're just trying to get the right bodies on the team to mold them the way he wants.

Good point. I took TJ's comments one way and he very well could be talking about playing a 4-3 over/under defense which does have a NT.

Mattison runs a true 4-3 at Michigan, and he designates their 4 DL positions as WDE - NT - DT - SDE. So BVG continuing to recruit NTs isn't sufficient to prove that we'll be employing a hybrid 3-4/ 4-3.

TCU has used a 4-2-5 as their base defense for many years with great success.

Given our inexperienced and convalescent LB corps, I wouldn't be surprised if Jaylon and Deeb were the only two on the field for a majority of snaps; at least early in the season.
