Texas 247 reporter thinks there is a 99.9% chance he ends up a Longhorn

While I do think there is a good chance he commits if he visits this is the same staff that thought Saban, Harbaugh, and Santa Klaus were realistic options for the coaching job. They tend to be a little caught up from time to time.

So are there any realistic backup-plan LBs anyone can think of, if Hill does flip?

Some names that occurred to me off the top of my head from earlier in the cycle are Devante Downs, Kalen Ballage, maybe even Kenny Young, since we are getting in with his teammate Terrence Alexander? I don't think any of those is realistic though. And none is at all the same type of player as Hill, but getting one of them might allow us to move some guys around. For instance, Young is an ILB, but getting him might allow us to make Randolph a full-time OLB, or use Sykes outside more, or use Martini outside, or whatever.

Just spitballing here. It will be interesting to see if we make a move on another LB late if we lose Hill.

Thought I saw someone mention Kaleb Hill and Kevin Mouhon. Think KM is inside...

Man we dropped the ball on that one.

OTOH, I'm wondering if he isn't one of those kids, like Taylor Decker, who was an OSU lock from the moment he got the offer. No excuse for not making an effort, but I'm not sure there is anything we could have done to get him anyway.

Let's just hope Hill isn't the UT version of one of those kids.

Maybe offering Kaleb Hill is a good idea at this point ... with the loss of Yeargin we have a spot, anyway.

EDIT: Just watched a couple minutes of his film ... I don't know if I'd feel right about offering Kaleb. He doesn't have the size or bulk to be a DE (or really even an OLB) for us and doesn't have the speed/quickness/agility to be a OLB. He's basically a DE in a safety's body. Just don't see it. PWO maybe, but not a schollie.

Mouhon is expected to sign with Cincy because of his brother, isn't he?

I think I should reemphasize the "I'm not going to do it" part haha... I just think the message is a clear one and it needs to be communicated to him. Which is why I've got such an itch to do it. I'm hopeful that Brian Kelly takes the gloves off. Charlie Strong absolutely will.

I've seen college athletics up close, and academics aside you go to the place where people believe in you as a Plan A difference maker if you care about success on the field. Actions speak louder than platitudes and there is no doubt that he is/was not a priority for this staff ever... either at Louisville or Texas... regardless of whatever lines they try to pitch him from here forward.

See, the way to get around the stigma is to tweet his coaches, teachers, parents, etc.

Wish we had other committed recruits in his ear/twitter convincing him to stay. I don't use Twitter, but follow the recruit profiles on here. It doesn't seem like there is a recruit in this class that is trying to get the uncommitted (Alexander, Quick, IM, JuJu, etc.) or wavering (Yeargin, Hill) to pick ND. Seems like years past we have had those guys (Jaylon is the first that comes to mind).

Nah, wasn't the case. If we had offered him early for football + lax he never would've even considered OSU. Just straight football versus football I think Ohio State would've probably won out for him (hard to know if we offered early though...) but playing both sports he would never have decommitted from ND. Hell, he was willing to stick with ND for a partial lax scholarship over football offers from BC, Miami, Louisville, etc.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...

It's kinda hard to drop the ball on a recruit when they never offered him IMO

Hmm, I'm not sure what the expression means to you, but to me it means failing to follow through on something. He was right under the staff's noses, but they were too slow to evaluate him and extend a football offer. To me that's dropping the ball. I guess you could say they never picked it up. Either way, to the extent that they easily could have had him, because he was already committed to ND for lacrosse, if they had just extended a timely football offer, they effed up.

If not having time to evaluate a kid that is already committed to the school isn't dropping the ball, then I don't know what is.... especially one as good as Hubbard.

I still feel good about him sticking, for no other reason than to combat the negativity. I also really don't want to miss out on 4 years of broadcasters hilariously mispronouncing his first name.

Then you should subscribe to the Longhorn Network

Oh, of course they do. They also think Texas Football is the center of the fucking universe and that every kid who grows up in the Longhorn State would give his left nut to be a Longhorn. In this case they may turn out to be right, but it does get tiresome.

Speaking of Twitter, for whatever its worth, he retweeted a pro-ND tweet and then favorited another pro-ND tweet not to long ago. Still has ND all over his page.

Not that ANY of that has ANY indication into what his plans are. Just thought that might help some of you relax a little bit?

II reporting Kelly and Cooks in home will be on Tuesday and that no visit to Texas has been scheduled by Hill. Hopefully we lock this thing up Tuesday.

imo he doesn't need to see texas on an official visit...this would be one to worry about til the letter is faxed in regardless if he takes that visit this week or not...probably a statement that goes without saying
