I mean, it's not like we were asking him to visit since June, and he just now got around to it. He probably had those other visits planned well in advance and is trying to squeeze us in at the last minute.

Even if this is the case, he planned the trips close to NSD. Did he think he wasn't going to be rushed?

Hemboldt at rivals talked to his coach and the coach said to not see this as a bad sign. He'll be getting to campus. Should be mid week next week. There's even talk that ND may be able to get the weekend before NSD away from Missouri where he's currently scheduled to go. Calls visiting a priority.

Media builds up NSD as a be-all-end-all date for recruiting. It's really just the first official day a kid can sign his LOI. He has plenty of time. Slow down, think about what you want, evaluate the universities, make your decision (even if it's after NSD).

yes but the balancing act is that you dont want to wait too long and have your options dwindle because classes are filling up. Coupled with that you want to commit to schools with coaching stability so you might want to wait for the carosel to slow down first. Its a different game for kids to play, especially the ones who aren't the sharpest

He's 18. Long range planning for teens is figuring out what you're going to do the next day.

Good point. If you're not a 5 star, then you risk missing out on the school you prefer.

With so many coaches on the road right now, is it also possible that he wanted to go when there might be more coaches on campus???

All the coaches are always on campus on game weekends.

I get the "NSD is just the first day" argument, and the coaching carousel, and I've got no problem with kids who want to take their time or wait until after their senior year is over. But there's absolutely a downside to that approach. Classes fill up and you have fewer options. Unless you're truly elite, which Cage (like most kids ) isn't.
Even for us right now, we're working, what, five DTs for at most two slots? If two want to commit this week, are we going to tell one to wait so a third can make up his mind?

visiting sparty this weekend

if he makes it out of there without committing i think we have a chance.

wouldn't surprise me to see him commit if he's blown away and if he just wants to end the process with him being frustrated about being overwhelmed. plus the way they've been developing defensive talent and coming off a strong season i'm sure they'll have a lot of positives to sell.

we're such a physical team that even our QBs know how to take out defenders

Anyone with Scout? Hope it's next weekend, but at least we are scheduled again regardless.

CB for DT Craig Evans, the wisconsin commit, is trending towards MSU, if they get Evans and Mcdowell, who also is trending toward Sparty, maybe that could help us with Cage.

I just want to say that if you haven't watched this kids Hudl highlights of him this year then you're really missing out. (And it's only of his first five weeks!) His profile says he is #18, but he wears #75 very often in his highlights.

Had a good OV and could cancel ND and Mizzou visits. Wiltfong isn't changing his Sparty CB... Good news keeps coming.

Some semi-encouraging things floating around on the MSU 247 board though ... although Wiltfong says that MSU hit a home run with Cage and Cage talked about canceling other visits, he (Wiltfong) also said that he isn't even sure Cage is a take for MSU. They are trying to flip Craig Evans, Evans is slightly higher on their board, and Wiltfong isn't certain Sparty has a spot for both.

However, Evans has academic issues, so (this part is JMO), it might make sense to take both guys to hedge against Evans not qualifying if they can.

Why cancel OVs at this point? OK, cancel Mizzou. Come to ND on the weekend. Then decide.

He told Kurelic this evening that he isn't canceling his visit, at least not yet.
