Yeah, but many people thought that about Davonte Neal. I know they're different prospects with different skill sets, but most expected him to be making an impact on returns and in the slot from Day 1. They put 0 emphasis on the punt return game, and I don't think he played a meaningful snap on offense after Game 2.
Neal certainly had serious competition at RB as carries were impossible to come by with Riddick and Wood being seniors and GA being the home run threat, but our WRs consisted of Jones (good Junior year), Daniels (inconsistent RS SO) year, Toma (solid, not great player), and that's about it at WR. There was playing time for the taking there for sure. Our backfield looks crowded again next year with arguably more talent than in 2012, and our WR core definitely has more talent than in 2012. Again, they're different prospects, but Kelly doesn't have much of a track record of going out of his way to play true freshmen.
The only frosh skill players who BK has given playing time to are TJ and Rees in 2010, GA as as a returner in 2011, Neal as a returner in 2012 and Brown as a decoy at WR, the this past year obviously Folston as the year progressed and then at WR there was situational work with Fuller pretty much as a deep threat, JO as a blocker, and Robinson as a deep ball guy. I wouldn't blame a RB/WR recruit for assuming that he won't make much of an impact in Year One.
