I would have voted for Bill O'Brian just because of the circumstances. Kelly had a great year though is very deserving. Congrats Coach Kelly!

To save Lax the trouble...
Vegas put the preseason O/U on PSU wins at 7. O'Brien won 8. Exceeding expectations by 1 win, particularly with how soft the B1G was this year, does not entitle him to CotY.

My prediction AFTER the "exodus" of players was 8 - 4. Their schedule was pathetic and their defensive front quite stout.
Met my expectations. Not deserving.
Kelly blew past predictions by 4 wins or so...and led a team to an undefeated record and a berth in the MNC game.

Congrats BK! Man Notre Dame is cleaning up the hardware this year. Such good exposure for our team and program. It shows you can come to ND to get a quality education and still have a chance at major awards and a national championship.

Despite what the cynics may say........ not everything is about wins and losses. If Obrien had won it, I would have had no problem with that.

I know Barrett won the Campbell and they had a good amount of All Americans. With Saban, unless he goes undefeated, CoY is probably out of the question.

The Coach of the Year award in any sport if you think about it is essentially a way for the media to cover up where they screwed up the most in their preseaon expectations.
It usually goes to the coach of the team that surprised them most. Essentially the media saying "Well we thought this team was going to be bad and they are good so it must have been the coach becuase it couldn't be that we miss evaluated the teams talent.
Not the BK didn't deserve it this year, he did. He won't though, be able to win it as easy in the future though now that expectations of ND are likely to change.

I live in Columbus, OH and many people around here are upset that Urban Meyer didn't win it...They're nuts though (sorry bad Buckeye pun).
I think this plays in to what chicago51 is talking about: Urban Meyer is SUPPOSED to come in and go undefeated with OSU. What Kelly and O'Brien did is way more impressive from an expectations point of view.

Lol at OSUs 2012 schedule.
I saw OSUs 2013 schedule as well. If there was ever a lock to go undefeated its them again in 2013. Maybe UM beats them at the big house, maybe. Some else on the board mentioned Urban Meyer should almost be fired if he doesn't go 13-0.
My goal is an undefeated ND beats an undefeated OSU in the last ever BCS national championship. With a one loss SEC champ left out in the cold.

For reals. You could probably make a case that this year's Big10 was the worst ever. Not one of them has a quality win out of conference.
