Per II, Kolin felt a connection with BVG as soon as he walked through the door. Said that BVG is very upfront and he likes that about him. BVG told him that he's a LB whether that be SAM, WILL, or coming off the edge.
So BVG still not showing any formation cards. Well played sir.... well played.

After reading some of his interviews after BVG's in-home visit this doesn't worry me all that much but it is something to follow. This is from Bobby Burton at Horns 247.

UPDATE 9:56 a.m.

2014 DE Kolin Hill of Schertz Clemens was visited by Texas DC Vance Bedford this morning. Hill is currently committed to Notre Dame.

Hill made an unofficial visit to Texas prior to committing to the Fighting Irish. He pledged to Notre Dame only after Texas did not immediately offer.

This recruitment may be one to watch down the stretch.

Would really, really make me sad if this happens. Would also make Yeargin a must keep. One of the biggest issues about recruiting around the country is that you're always going to have battles with the "home" schools around this time. Would also make Yeargin much more of a must keep if we were to lose Hill down the stretch.

Like many I think he is really underrated and really want him here. Hope he sticks around.

All it says is Texas' DC stopped by his house.

Let's not jump off a ship that is still clearly afloat and not sinking.

Ironman asked Wiltfong about this and here was his response. I haven't done any digging on this. Not sure at this point. Obviously he loves Notre Dame.

I think he stays, especially after his comments about BVG and their meeting. I think he feels very wanted and needed by ND, and texas is treating him as a last resort option. At least I hope he sees that.

And we can sell him on the "We wanted you when the hometown team didn't. Let's go kill us some steer the next two years as payback!"

I don't think that will work as well with Charlie Strong and a whole new coaching staff in town. They could very easily say that the previous staff didn't know what they were doing, that's why they're no longer here, and we want you at UT. Yada, Yada, Yada.

I honestly wish Charlie Strong the best. But don't take Kolin from us.

We hit on kids that Texas looked at later in the process. Robinson last year, Hill this year. Great job in Texas lately.

Yeah, and he just met BVG for the first time very recently and that's his position coach/coordinator. It's not like he's even the guy who originally offered him, and he doesn't have a relationship to fall back on there. The good news is that Cooks is co-DC, etc. I think the biggest question will be how he sees himself with BVG and if he's comfortable there, which may be tough considering he hasn't even committed to a defense.

Yes, BK has been doing admirably by recruiting TX. Let's just hope more kids take us seriously when we see the Irish whoop 'em in consecutive years.

Not that we're aware, but I bet he already has a strong idea of how he's leaning. Being so close to NSD, I think it would be hard for UT to flip him. If they do, we were simply a fall back plan.

Yeah, I do too, and I think it's a 4-3 with some one gap 3-4. But he has come out and committed to it for a reason, and that's that he still has to evaluate the talent on the roster and see what they can do. I mean, at his pressed he didn't even know who Jaylon Smith was.

Did you get that impression? On the other hand I thought he did. One of the things I like about BVG is he forcefully turned the conversation away from conversation about Jaylon, or any other great players skills.

This allows him a chance at player development that he would not have if he were to succumb to the "cult of the personality" as he walked in the door. One of the biggest differences between the bookend Holtz and Kelly programs (where player development had and has succeeded across the board) and the three intervening programs is that dominance of one particular player was not ordained. Everybody has worked for their job.

I believe that the bottom player's development (on the roster) is important to BVG, more that accolades heaped on the top player. And I believe this is the first fundamental rule of strong player development.

He probably didn't. Heck he didn't take the job because of the kids on the team. He took it because the opportunity and challenge was interesting to him.

I do think that as soon as he was on-board he started evaluating tape and talked to the other coaches about the players, their skills, the depth. etc.. Hence the "let's start offering 75 DT's so we can land a couple.

Yeah, pretty obvious what skillset he sees lacking on the roster for what he wants to accomplish.

Here is the sentence that says it all. Should be worth the bump, making everyone feel better. From the SB Trib :

“I'm solid with where I'm going,” Hill said. “Meeting coach VanGorder pretty much sealed the deal.”

meeting with BVG sealed the deal, or it pretty much sealed the deal? That is not definite by any stretch of the imagination.

and that's pretty much all I can tell you about that.
