First of all, he's 6'3". That's what he has a verified measurement at without shoes, and I haven't seen a verified report of him growing sizeably over the past 6 months.
We have tons of people bigger than him who move as well as he does both on our roster and in this incoming class. He's a 5.0 40-yard dash guy who's about the size of Jaylon Smith... soooo...........
In this class, Trumbetti is much bigger and also much more athletic. So is Blankenship. So is Luatua. So is Weishar. So is Williams. Then if you start looking at guys who are an inch or so shorter, there are tons more.
He's nowhere close to being the "best all-around athlete" and that's not opinion. It's fact. Look at his Sparq score at The Opening... it was an 89. Brent scored a 121.
Yeah, I thought he was going to flip, then I thought he was going to probably stick, and now I'm really leaning back towards him flipping if Clemson wants him. Was surprised we even took someone from the University School to begin with, and especially someone who only committed to us because he was a non-take at the school he actually wanted to commit to.
Without shoes, that's pretty good height for LB. Most kids that come in, say, listing 6'2", we find out are closer to 6'0".
Trumbetti is a good one, and you're probably right.
Although Williams would win in a 40, I don't consider him 'more athletic' than Yeargin. First off, Yeargin seems much stronger in his film IMO. Also, Yeargin seems to move really well in space, side to side, and I personally doubt Yeargin's 40 is accurate. Based on watching his film, I bet he could run faster than 5.0.
When they toss all of these kids into a weekend event with not much experience/coaching in 'how to maximize your 40', there can be some big discrepancies among players, especially when some players know track/starting and some just go run as fast as they can... In all actuality they can be just as fast/faster than someone with a close or even better score. Sure, this theory may not apply to Yeargin and maybe he is 'coached up' in 40s, but given my opinion on how he looks pretty damn fast, and the fact that he returned a 5.0 at the Sparq, I'd guess that he can do better than that.
*I'm basing my 'Yeargin is uber-athletic' based on how he stands out on film and considering his competition is as good as it gets*, so no sense in splitting hairs. Given the Sparq data, I don't have an argument against you, so just wanted to make that clear.
I mean, I hope he sticks for more reasons than 1!
