The people I knew in the band at ND said that Penn St. fans were the nastiest of anywhere they ever went for a road game. I have no idea what their problem is.

Not surprised, this is how they treat conference fans, imagine how they might treat someone they're not affiliated with:

A lot of B1G fans in general are pretty nasty. Michigan is bad, Penn State, OSU has a rowdy past with certain teams, Michigan State with certain teams as well. Nebraska is one of the few exceptions, but then again, they've not been part of the B1G very long.

Yeah, PSU/Mich/OSU... all really bad fans from my experiences. I don't know if you can pick a "worst." MSU aren't great either, so maybe it's a Big Ten thing. I remember being at the Horseshoe for a lacrosse game of all things prior to their spring football game... have never encountered more belligerent fans in my life, and this was for lacrosse and a football scrimmage. My parents have had lots of bad experiences with PSU fans going up to visit my brother, a lot of "friendly fire" in the stands. Maybe it just has to do with the high correlation between drinking and general belligerence.

On the other end of the spectrum, BYU/Oklahoma = pure class from my limited experiences.

I agree and would add Nebraska to the classy list. Unfortunately there is a direct correlation between "worst fans" and crowd noise. Only on rare occassions do we make enough noise to make an impact on the field.

Know it is not an ND update, but wondering if it talk about how strongly he is committed.

Nothing about ND, He says he is committed and waiting to see who the new coach will be before he plans anything as far as visits or opening up his commitment

TV is reporting we could get an official if Larry Johnson isn't retained at Penn State. LJ may be headed to fill Vrabel's opening on the OSU staff. BVG and Elston are going to visit Holley this week.

Hmmmmmm.

Hopefully his uncle takes a back seat here and lets Holley make a decision, whether or not that benefits us is TBD, but at least we could have a shot. I have a feeling, at least in the beginning, that BVG might excite some of these kids. NFL experience and very enthusiastic.

If Johnson goes to OSU I would fully expect Holley to follow him there.

I just don't see anyway the kid ends up here.

Not going to hold my breath here. I thought either Elam or Holley would come after they saw what our DT/NT depth looked like and the effort our coaches were putting in to land these guys. Holley probably had the best shot, sounded like he was already buddy buddy with Jay Hayes. If his uncle continues to make stupid decisions for him, he probably has no chance of coming. Expect to see him at Florida if he doesn't go to Penn State, and they'll probably be a dumpster fire for another year at least.

Steve thinks there's a possibility OSU wouldn't want him.

This. I brought up the fact a week ago to the people at BP that Holley may reopen his recruiting, and the recruitniks say that OSU is done recruiting Holley all together. I guess Urban decided he didn't want to pursue him anymore, even before the Penn State verbal. That could be a cover up, there were also rumors that Urban gave Holley an ultimatum commitment when he visited him, Holley declined at that time, and then Urban pulled the deal all together. All hearsay, so who knows.

I wouldn't like LJ landing in Columbus. Guy is a great recruiter.

I'll hold my breath on Holley as well.

I do like that the staff has cast a broad net here this week. Lots of interest in new and old prosepects. Something will pay off. Should be fun to watch.

PSU not retaining Larry Johnson would be like making a movie "D4: The Mighty Ducks" without Emilio Estevez

Everyone around him is pushing him to PSU. Would love to get him but I don't see how.

I don't see it either, unless BVG makes an impact. One of his closest friends, Jay Hayes, wasn't able to convince him, so this seems unlikely.

I've never once found this kid to be genuinely interested in Notre Dame, mostly just lukewarm acknowledgement.

Not a knock, I just think this one has left the park, even if it isn't Penn State in the end.

-He visited on his own dime over the summer and many had us leading at one time.

-BVG and Elston have an in-home so there's at least an opportunity.

Now whether or not he actually comes here is a different story but some of your statements could be a little more accurate.

Thanks, you are correct. I was hasty, or rather, inaccurate in my judgment. I think when I read about him not liking the feel of campus, I sort of wrote him off as a genuine prospect for ND. Yes, Holley seemed to have interest at one point in time, and has been complimentary of ND's tradition as well. If we have a shot, I think it's with BVG due to potential changes in defensive scheme, which might appeal to Holley.

Silly season is always crazy but this is a particularly weird one. What if Elston had gone to UCONN? Hire Larry Johnson + land Holley. Crazy to think about.

Was ND a finalist? Let's stop getting are hopes up.

ISD thinks it will be a Notre Dame Fla battle with Fla holding the lead at the moment. Chances would be dramatically increased if Holley takes an official to South Bend. It should be noted that Holley already took an official to Fla.

With LJ gone, they now see it as a Florida v. ND battle. Think Florida favors, but if we can get him for an OV they like our chances.

Edit: Thanks Irishbluhen.
