I'm assuming he wants to coach in the long-term and I wouldn't be surprised if he got a pay raise.

Only a matter of time, especially after you consider the speculation he wasn't making large amounts of money (seen ranges from $55K to $65K). It was a win-win for he and ND in that he got his career going even more and he built a great foundation at ND.

Pretty surprised he made that much money.

I think that salary is generous given his job responsibilities: "Will work with the program's recruiting efforts, handle special projects assigned by head coach Brian Kelly and assist in the social media strategies and execution of the football program." For reference, PR / social media people at F500 firms generally start at around $40K.
